SanDisk 16GB overview

  • 1Description

Designed for professional photographers and videographers, the 16GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDHC Memory Card from SanDisk features a storage capacity of 16GB and takes advantage of the UHS-II bus to support advanced DSLR functions such as continuous shutter bursts and rapid shooting, as well as RAW and JPEG captures. This card is also well-suited for video capture, including 4K, 3D, and Full HD video, and can achieve maximum read speeds of up to 280 MB/s and maximum write speeds of up to 250 MB/s. Thanks to its U3 speed class rating, minimum write speeds are guaranteed not to drop below 30 MB/s.

UHS-II media achieves its speed through an extra row of pins and while this card has been designed for cameras that are UHS-II compatible, it may be used in devices that do not support UHS-II. However, bear in mind that this card will then default to your device's speed class and bus rating, such as UHS-I and U3. If your device does not support U3, this card is compatible with the U1 and Class 10 standards, each of which guarantees minimum write speeds of 10 MB/s.

As with most SanDisk cards, this memory card is shockproof, X-ray proof, waterproof, while also being able to withstand temperatures from -13 to 185°F, allowing you to take this card with you into extreme environments, such as snow, deserts, and pools.. Should the card's data become compromised, you also benefit from the option to download RescuePRO Deluxe software as well as a limited lifetime warranty.

    SanDisk 16GB reviews

16GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDHC Memory Card is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from A little disappointing I was looking to improve on the continuous exposure frames per second on my Nikon D7100. After the buffer is full (6 frames shooting RAW) the camera has to write to the card as it shoots. I have been using SanDisk Extreme 16GB 45MB/s (sdhc 1 class 10) and getting about 44MB/s. This number was calculated from the measured 39 frames captured in 30 seconds. When I switched to the 16GB Extreme PRO SDHC UHS-II Memory Card (claiming 280MB/s) the speed actually reduced to 42MB/s (37 frames in 30 sec). I did not check if there are any issues with read speed to my computer, but that was not what I was after.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from X-T2 Error NO CARD IN SLOT 2 SOLUTION: USE THE EXTREME PRO CLASS 3 SDHCII, 280 MB/S READ, 250 MB/S WRITE, ANY SIZE CARD, THE WRITE SPEED IS SHOWN ON THE X-T2 IN THE BACK SIDE WITH PINPOINT FLASH COLOR LED FLASHING FOR ONE SECOND, WITH THIS SPEED CARD OF SDHCII CLASS 3. IF YOU USE 95 MB/SEC CARDS, THE ERROR NO CARD IN SLOT 2, WILL CONTINUUE AND YOU MAY HAVE TO SEND IT IN FOR REPAIR. IF YOU DON'T USE THE SDHC II CLASS 3 CARD OF 280MB/SEC READ SPEED, 250 MB WRITE SPEED THIS WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS IN THE X-T2 FUJIFILM CAMERA ACCORDING TO FACTORY TECHNICIANS IN EDISON NJ. Rated 5 out of 5 by from A small improvement and still expensive I picked this up for my Fuji X-T1, one of the first cameras to implement UHS-II. To be honest, I'm glad I went for the 16Gb version (I usually buy 32Gb) given that the improvements in speed were relatively minor. You can pick up a regular UHS-I Class 10 90Mb/s card from a good supplier for a quarter of the price. So what's the benefit? I found that in burst mode this card stored about 40-50% more before the buffer started to slow things down. So in use with the X-T1 that was 24 frames (each RAW+Fine so technically 48) captured at 8fps. In comparison the aforementioned good UHS-I card captured about 16 (again RAW+Fine). Now just to note it, 24 RAW+Jpeg 16Mb files put down at 8 fps, that's pretty great, it slows down to maybe 3fps after that until you give it a breather. It's just that you may not need to be shooting like that, and if not... then you're probably as well off picking up a regular UHS-I card.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely positive benefits The addition the 16GB Extreme PRO SDHC UHS-II Memory Card to my storage capabilities improved my life and made it more enjoyable. Attractive women stop me on the street and demand I join them for dinner and dessert at their place. They are thoughtful and sensitive to my needs and allow me to have time for myself as well. Thank you SanDisk!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't be taken in Sounds great; 280 mb/s write speed. I was sold a bill of goods by the in-store sales guy who conveniently failed to mention that NO camera body yet available writes at 280mb/s. So, that great speed is useless. At that time the card was close to $100 in price, and in a moment of poor judgment I bought one hoping for the best and 'lo, learned afterward that cameras do not write anywhere near that speed. SanDisk is a great card, I always use SanDisk, but this card is way ahead of it's time. Do not buy an SD card over 95 mb/s, as this is the top write speed of most cameras these days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blazing fast! I have used sandisk products for a long time and have never been let down by their quality, durability and performance. This is not Exception. I use this card with my Fujifil X-T1 pro and it delivers amazing fast write/read times, specially when shooting at 8 frames peers second. This SD card has a second row of pins which are used for the faster read and write speeds. More cameras will come out that are compatible with this card. You can still use as a regular SD card in your camera but won't take advantage of the advertised max read/write sped times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome card...but can you use it? As of the time of this review the Fuji X-T1 is the only camera that can take full advantage of this cards awesome speed. A great card, no doubt, but your camera may not be able to take full advantage of the UHS-II specification

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fast & Relable I use them in a 5D III and a 7D II. They are used in my normal photography and HDR. HDR uses 3 shots in high RAW and Large JPG will slow me down at tires in the past, not any more. thanks to the speed
