Varavon SL-V 600 overview

  • 1Description

The Varavon Slidecam V-600 Camera Slider is approximately 24" long and features three ball bearing sliding rollers. The slider track incorporates three sets of 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting holes, allowing you to support it in the center or at both ends. Two removable height adjustable legs are also included for using the slider on the ground. The legs provide height adjustment for leveling, and are articulated, allowing you to adjust them for rough surfaces.

The slider weighs under 5 lbs and supports up to 44 lbs of weight, The slider carriage features a 3/8"-16 threaded mounting screw with a large thumb wheel to tighten down available flat base heads. It features a friction break mechanism that can apply tension, or lock the carriage in place along the rails. The carriage incorporates a built-in bubble level that allows you to confirm the level of the track. The track is pre-indexed so you can measure and repeat your move precisely. The included oil seal is used to clean and oil the chrome plated track, and you can use the included carry case for transport of storage.

The slider platform rides on three wheels with sealed bearings, and it is captive in the track bed. This allows you to flip the track over and get that inverted shot, without worrying that the carriage will fall off the tracks.
The end caps of the track feature 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting holes that allow you to mount the included articulating feet, or other available accessories.
The 6mm diameter rails are chrome coated to protect them from rust and corrosion.
The track is light and strong, featuring machined holes that relieve excess weight, and provide additional strength.
The track comes inscribed with a graduated ruler, so you can mark your moves and make them repeatable.
The feet are removable and attach to the track using a large easy to use spin wheel.
The removable feet feature two points of articulation providing 180° of horizontal position adjustment, and 90° of vertical adjustment.

    Varavon SL-V 600 reviews

Slidecam V-600 Camera Slider (24") is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely worth the money. A quality slider. This is the 5th slider I've owned, after a long trail of purchases and returns from cheap sliders to very expensive ones. I've learned 3 very important things to keep in mind when purchasing a slider. 1) You actually need to know how to use a slider well, and the more practice you have with one, the better the slider will usually perform (i.e. body movement, if you are purchasing from the camera or the base of the slider, how much weight you put on it). 2) Slider bearing type. It seems like ball bearings are the way to go, which this slider has (and they are very nice). The sliders without ball bearings still work when used with the proper technique, though I feel it's easier to mess up your shot/slide. So get this slider, or at least one that has decent ball bearings. 3) Use a video head. I know this may seem strange to some people that would assume to use a video head, but I did not with my first 3 sliders. Using a nice video head definitely seems to help absorb any tiny bumps in your slide, and it also adds some extra weight, which is usually a very good thing. I would say if you already have a slider, and it does not seem to be as smooth as you'd like, try adding some weight to your camera, or whatever is mounted to your camera on the slider. In regards to this slider, it's size is very convenient, the distance markings on the side are certainly very convenient, and the little oil wiping pad on it helps ensure smooth slides with little to no bumps/dirt on it. Every time I use the slider (as directed), I wipe it down with the oil pad, and slide my camera back and forth several times which seems to get rid of any excess debris/dirt. I'm not really sure if that's what's happening, but I usually feel a couple tiny little bumps, then after 3-4 quick slides, they are gone. And it is very very smooth. For $200 and some bucks, compared to the $400+ sliders which can get ridiculously expensive, this one is definitely a quality buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok - at first I was really excited about this slider when I first got it - it was easy to set up & the slide was decent, but over a year's time the slide is getting less and less smooth. Maybe it's my fault for using it for beach shoot on a windy day. I got a LOT of sand in it, but I've taken it apart, cleaned every inch of it & added grease. The vibrations have been getting been getting progressively worse to the point where it's almost unusable. My newest issue is that when I try to use the locking mechanism, the red cap pops off and I can't the dang thing to loosen up. Time to get a new slider

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Slider, Bag Needs A Better Zipper excellent slider, smooth is the key. Others are cheaper but I saw that the comments were they were not smooth, why have a slider if every 2 inches you have a bump. This is worth it. I shoot lots of furniture trade show and showrooms videos so it's an essential piece of equipment for me. One complaint and I would not call this minor, the zipper on the bag broke, so the end is no longer protected in my larger bag. Not happy about that element of the product. I still give it 4 starts because the essential functions of the device are rock solid. 1 star off for the bag malfunction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great except for the case I'm very happy with the slider but the case is too short to accept the rig with the legs attached. This is stupid - who wants to keep taking the legs off and on when a 4 longer case would have worked?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Silky Smooth so far so good, I love this slider. It's my first slider and I was concerned about less expensive models that had reviews saying that those models were sometimes jerky or not smooth. What's a slider worth if it's not smooth? NOTHING That's why I am glad I paid some more for this model. Love it, easy to set up, I accommodates my tripod head. This is a worthwhile expense especially if you are shooting furniture, interior design, auto or food. It seems like all those industries have 90% slider shots in their videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awsome Value/Great Quality The Varavon Slidecam V600 is a great 24 inch slider. The 3 bearing system is a smooth as silk and collapsible legs are easy to use and add a lot flexibility. Having the flexibility to add on other accessories like the motoriod motion controller and the timeroid timelapse controller is great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smooth, easy to assemble, price is right All we wanted was to get that smooth MOS shot that looks like you're using a huge boom or other production tool. This slider does that. It's easy to put together, comes with several levels built in that helps keep things level, and changing out the head only takes a moment. We're extremely happy with this item so far.
