Elvid WCM-758G Overview

  • 1Description

Combining analog and digital signal inputs, the SkyVision WCM-758G 7" Wireless LCD Monitor is suitable for use as a first-person viewing (FPV) device for use with the wireless feed from optional RC aircraft mounted cameras (Aerial Imaging Platforms). It features a 7" screen with 1024 x 600 resolution, which allows you to view either SD or HD video with minimal scaling or windowing providing a large image no matter what the resolution of your video. It supports 32 channels across 4 wireless bands and incorporates a built-in 5.8 GHz receiver, which is compatible with optional DJI transmitters, as well as other optional 5.8 GHz transmitters.

The monitor takes an RF signal via a single antenna, and as it is an analog signal, the monitor allows the image to degrade but remain visible as the signal fades, instead of displaying a blue or black screen as most digital monitors will once the signal falls below a certain threshold. It also accepts a composite signal, which features a loop through output, and an HDMI input. The monitor is powered by optional Sony L Series type batteries, via the built-in L type battery plate. You can also use it with an optional AC power adapter if you want to use it from an AC power outlet. A removable plastic sun hood provides protection from the glare and direct exposure of the screen to sunlight. The hood features a top and two side flags, that you can collapse while the hood is mounted to the monitor; this configuration provides protection for the monitor screen during transport or storage.

Built-In 5.8 GHz Receiver
The Elvid WCM-758G SkyVision features a built-in 5.8 GHz receiver that works with your 5.8 GHz composite video transmitter. It is well suited for use with optional quadcopter-mounted cameras and can also be used on location with other wireless camera systems.
32 Channels Over 4 Bands
SkyVision offers a variety of wireless options, with 32 channels over 4 bands. User selectable DIP switches allow you to tune the monitor's receiver to the cleanest channel.
Analog RF signal Input
If reception between the SkyVision and your wireless transmitter weakens, the monitor will display the incoming video signal with a bit of snow instead of defaulting to a blank or blue screen.
Composite Loop Through In/Out
For added flexibility, the SkyVision is also equipped with a loop through composite video input/output for use as a wired standard-definition video monitor with SD composite video sources.
Onscreen Menu
Use the SkyVision's onscreen menu for convenient access to all of the setting configurations and advanced tools. Front panel buttons enable easy navigation within the menu and submenus.

Monitor Tools

The Check Field mode helps you calibrate the monitor by displaying only the selected color onscreen. Choose from red, green, blue, or mono for a grayscale image.
The Focus Tool helps you determine the areas of the image that are in focus by increasing the sharpness and contrast of the monitor and exaggerating in-focus areas of the picture.
Select from the presets 9300, 7500, and 6500 K to optimize the screen's color temperature. Advanced users can also configure a custom setting. The Color Temp setting is available when the monitor is set to HDMI input.
Selectable aspect ratios allows you to scale the onscreen image to fit either 16:9 (native) or 4:3.
Select from 80%, 85%, 90%, 93%, or 96% safety frame markers.
If you're shooting on a DSLR, use the Camera mode to scale the incoming video signal to fill the screen.
The buttons on the front of the monitor function as quick shortcuts to Camera, Focus, and Check Field modes, the safety frame and center markers, and the onscreen volume bar.
The monitor can display menu features in the following languages: English (default), Simplified Chinese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Portuguese.

Monitor Features

The included collapsible sunshade prevents glare on the monitor's screen. It is removable and fits on any optional 7" Skyvision monitor from Elvid.
It's easy to monitor your incoming audio signal with the SkyVision, whether it's from the built-in speaker or the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Volume is adjustable via the shortcut buttons or the onscreen menu.
The built-in battery plate accommodates Sony L-series type batteries. Adding an optional 12 V DC adapter will let you power the SkyVision from a wall outlet or other AC power source.
The LED power indicator provides a visual confirmation when the SkyVision is in standby mode or ready to go.
The monitor incorporates a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole on the bottom of the unit.

    Elvid WCM-758G Reviews

SkyVision WCM-758G 7" Wireless LCD Monitor is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Functional Option I use this monitor with my DJI Phantom 2 for FPV monitoring of my GoPro footage. The monitor is full color and has decent quality picture, a little on the soft/blurry side. The monitor works great with the radio frequencies but is a pain to set up initially. Yoy have to read the instructions and go through each channel to find the correct frequency. The jumper switches are not the best option for this and the number labels wiped off completely by the time I found the right frequency. There aren't too many other options for a built in wireless monitor so I guess this is good until something new comes out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from May not work with the DJI Phantom Vision This monitor is advertised to work with DJI drones. Well, not quite. I bought this model as a monitor for my Phantom 2 Vision+ as well as to attach to my DSLRs and video cameras. (I need to move up from using my cell phone to a sun protected larger screen while flying the Phantom). But the first monitor I purchased didn't work at all. Fortunately B&H replaced it. But then I was disappointed to learn the 2nd unit wouldn't communicate with my Phantom. A phone call to Elvid resulted in receiving additional channel selections but to no avail. Then when i spoke with an excellent rep from B&H, he said since the monitor and my Phantom's controller worked on similar frequencies the monitor couldn't function as a monitor with my aircraft because If it were, it could cause loss of control due to interference between the controller and the aircraft. He suggested exchanging it for an Android based system monitor instead. However I've chosen to keep the monitor because it works well with my cameras and I'll pick up a tablet later. But if you're looking for a monitor for your Phantom, I strongly suggest calling B&H's video department first and confirming that your getting a compatible system. Oh, one other thing. This unit is compatible with Sony camera batteries. If you use other type batteries in your facility, you may be able to have this unit switched to batteries and chargers you're using.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FPV with Interruptions I watch my flight in First Person View. The camera is a GoPro Hero4. I like being able to see what the camera sees. I've only used it a couple of times and both times the resolution is low enough to bother me - perhaps this can be set higher, and the video transmission gets interrupted either by static or complete momentary blank. Since many items and circumstances can affect this I don't know yet what causes it. Jury's still out on some aspects of this gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value! I use this monitor as an external HDMI monitor for video. It has a nice large area and good picture quality. I plan on using the wireless function soon with a FPV Hex-copter. I like all of the different inputs and the fact that it uses the same batteries as my video cameras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every cent... I would highly recommend this monitor! I use it with my phantom and gopro and it works well, for the price its hard to beat... It also seems to have better battery life than other monitors I have, even ones without 5.8GHz receivers built in!

Will this work with a Sony a7sii? If so, how would I get it to work?
    Asked by: Anonymous
It will only work if it is connected via HDMI cable to the monitor. It will not work wirelessly since the camera needs a specific app.

I plan on using this with the came-tv mini 3 gimbal. the gimbal has a transmitter. would the monitor connect automatically or would there be some kind of programming involved?
    Asked by: jerry
We have not tested this particular set-up. That being said since the gimbals transmitter and the monitor are on the same frequency of 5.8 Ghz, it should be just a matter of selecting the right channels on the SkyVision. They are accessible via the Dip switches on the back. Then press the Mode button until you see the image.

Can more than one screen at a time connect to one transmitter ? what king of transmitter is best for use with FLIR scout video out connection?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Multiple receivers can weaken and interfere with transmission so it is not suggested. You can loop out composite video if you would like an additional monitor. In order to work with FLIR composite output it will only connect via USB so it will not connect with an AV transmitter.
