HighPoint ROCKETSTOR 6328 overview

  • 1Description

The RocketStor 6328 Dual Thunderbolt 2 RAID Adapter from HighPoint Technologies is a compact and efficient RAID solution designed to work with Thunderbolt compatible Mac and Windows based computers. The RocketStor 6328 is compatible with a variety of RAID configurations including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and JBOD to cover all of your storage needs.

Additionally, the RocketStor 6328 is also compatible with any SAS or SATA HDD and SSD. On the back of the device you will find two Thunderbolt 2 ports supporting a 20Gb/s bi-directional data rate, and dual external Mini-SAS ports for extensive connectivity options.

Reduced Size, Enhanced Power
The RocketStor 6328 is the perfect storage companion for Thunderbolt 2 capable notebook PCs and Macbook portables. The palm-sized all-aluminum enclosure is powerful enough to stream 4K video while simultaneously transferring terabytes worth of HD media to multiple small-form factor Mini-SAS and eSATA storage chassis - all from a single Thunderbolt connection.
RAID Functionality
With enhanced levels of performance, flexibility and plug-and-play usability this small, self-contained enclosure is designed with maximum portability in mind. The built-in hardware RAID-on-Chip controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and JBOD configurations delivering uncompromised performance and superior data protection demanded by professional 4K media applications.
Thunderbolt Compatibility
The RocketStor 6328 is compatible with any Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 platform, and has been certified by Intel and Apple.
Expansive Connectivity
Thunderbolt 2 transfer bandwidth easily handles the industry's most robust storage interfaces, and delivers an unprecedented level of storage expansion capability. The dual external Mini-SAS ports directly supports up to 8 SAS/SATA hard drives and SSD's, up to twenty when paired with SATA Port Multiplier capable drive enclosures, and as many as 128 via SAS expander, all through a single Thunderbolt port.
HighPoint DV Mode
Video professionals may find that even hardware RAID-based storage systems will experience inconsistent performance when capturing or editing high quality digital video, which can greatly impede or even cripple the post-production process. These inconsistencies are caused by standard RAID caching algorithms, which are designed for server environments rather than media applications. HighPoint has introduced DVMode, an innovative caching algorithm designed for the video production applications. DVMode reorganizes I/O in order to minimize the latency time of write-back caching workflow. This innovative new technology maintains consistent, sustained high-performance data transfer - a key component of any storage system dedicated to post production applications.
Hybrid Storage Configurations
Today's storage applications need solutions that are versatile enough to support more than one type of storage application. HighPoint 6 Gb/s SAS/SATA and Thunderbolt Hardware RAID adapters and solutions do not restrict media selection to hard disk drives; this "Hybrid" approach to storage connectivity accommodates both SAS/SATA hard drives, and SAS/SATA SSD's configurations across a variety of platforms.

    HighPoint ROCKETSTOR 6328 reviews

RocketStor 6328 Dual Thunderbolt 2 RAID Adapter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thunderbolt2 PCIe Exp. Embedded RAID If you are using the new Macpros, this is a good alternative to PCIe expansion. I previously used PCIe expansion enclosures with a Macbook Pro, and considered doing the same for our new Macpro, but found this product instead. It saved our company a lot of cash, was simple to setup, allows us to reserve the PCIe box we do have for networking/media cards, and is very fast! It has a built in hardware RAID controller so you can avoid the extra cost of buying another card. The little box (it actually does fit in your hand!) is dedicated to storage only, so performance is stable and predictable - no bottleneck or shared bandwidth with other PCIe devices. I recommend others using PCIe expansion for RAID storage instead consider transitioning to this adapter. You can use with any SAS/eSATA enclosure. Highpoint also recently released tape support, which really makes it a best value Tape/HDD storage combo solution on market. A similar product (PCIe expansion, prebuilt RAID boxes, etc., can easily cost you 2-3 times as much, and don't really offer any advantages at this point.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for LTO under Windows 7, but no Windows PE support Using it to connect a HP Ultrium LTO tape drive with SAS interface to a laptop with a Thunderbolt port. - Works great under Windows 7 x64, after installing the Highpoint drivers. - I want to note that this unit actually has a tiny fan blowing out at the bottom, but as it is pretty low noise I don't take it as a real negative. - However I am not able to access the tape drive when booting Windows PE -which would be needed to do a Bare Iron system restore-, as the driver(s) do not load (or work) correctly under Windows PE, even after integrating them into the PE boot image using DISM. Support replied but couldn't help me on that. I now need to keep another system disk backup at hand on an external harddisk to cover such a case, which is not the intent when using a tape drive for backup! One star off because of that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased with this product! What a pleasure to find a product that is solid. I have used HighPoint Raid cards for years. This BlackBox (silver) makes life so much easier. Just like having the fastest 24TB external hard drive with one cable to plug in. I clocked my Raid at 1GBps.
