The Dot Line Matte Box MB3 is a 15mm rod mount matte box for lenses with 86mm or smaller filter threads. It's height-adjustable on the rod clamp for different sized lenses, and it's compatible with average wide angle lenses. It includes removable top, bottom, and side flags. The frame and rod clamp are aluminum and the matte box is made of ABS plastic.

One filter holder is for 4 x 4" filters and one for custom 4 x 4.56" filters. The second also supports 4 x 4" filters. Both rotate a full 360°. Two cowls are included for different sized lenses to prevent stray light from entering between the matte box and front of the lens.

    Dot Line DL-V/MB3 reviews

Matte Box MB3 is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built and durable, but HEAVY. I ordered this for a DSLR shoulder rig and the build quality is top-notch. The height adjustability is also 3-4x more than similiar matteboxes- there is around 2 inches of height adjustment to accommodate various camera/lens types. Most of the core components (including the fins) are metal. The main box is a super heavy duty plastic but all connector rods and mounting points are metal. I had to return this item because of the sheer weight. The mattebox alone weighed more than my camera rig without the camera attached, which made the balance horribly front-weighted. If weight isn't an issue and built quality is a priority, this mattebox is a great value for the price. Seeks like it would hold up great over tears of use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It is not often that something is better than described Three flags? No, four in the box. So all four sides covered. Not critical perhaps, but a nice surprise. Only downside is an issue I have with most matte boxes: the rotating filter holder is closer to the lens than the fixed one. Mr primary use of the rotating one is a polarizer. Some fixed filters cannot be placed between subject and polarizer, so I lose the use of one frame or the other. Too bad. Otherwise an excellent and inexpensive choice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great! But... It's a very well built matte box and it's promising! But like others have said, the knickers, or cloth rings to cover between the lens and the matte box, do NOT fit the matte box AT ALL. They just pop right off after being stretched across. I am very disappointed about this, but I made a home remedy to fix the problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Passably functional For the price I guess this can't be beat, but there's some major issues that I haven't seen addressed in any of the other reviews with this unit.1. The knickers don't fit around the matte box portion at all. The part that it should go around does not extrude all the way around, and thus has no teeth for which the knicker can stay fastened. I keep the lens hoods on through the matte box, which I'm guessing does the job. But rest assured that without proper fitting knickers, there will be light leaks. I'm not sure why they included knickers at all, or if anyone decided to test whether they could appropriately strap on before bringing this unit to retail.2. There are flag tighteners that can be tightened by hand pictured on the box that this unit comes in. Specifically there should be three of them. However, upon opening up the unit there is only one that runs along the top. The rest can be tightened if you have the proper fitting for a screwdriver, which isn't included. Luckily I have this, so I guess I have to bring my tools everywhere I shoot. As if I wanted to carry around and keep up with more stuff. I have contacted BH whose rep thought perhaps I had been sent a unit with missing pieces, however the second one is the exact same story.I'll be keeping the unit, as it is good build quality and a killer price, however if I had known that some of these issues were present, I would have initially gone with a different unit. The real sore spot for me I would have to say are the knickers which are completely worthless and will not fit. The other issue can be rectified, but I haven't figured out a way to rectify the knickers so that they will stay on. I currently have a theory that I can just cut off the portion of the elastic that goes around the matte box, and then go buy some velcro strips or something, but this has yet to be tested/achieved.The matte box does look professional, and I guess at the end of the day that's what matte boxes are all about anyway, as a decent lens hood will essentially achieve the same effect.Good luck and happy shooting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from perfect budget mattebox Far better build quality than the price would imply. Plenty of metal construction and pro features you'd expect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exelent The mattbox is easy to use , comes with the four flags to cover all needs, i have it attach to my rig , i found it better like that So at the time of changing lenses i can only remove my camera. Maybe if i buy the swing away adapter i can move the matt and change the lens only without removing my camera but in the meantime in good to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you're looking for an inexpensive option, this is it. Yes it's not the highest end Matte box, but you already knew that. It costs only $129.00. That being said though, for that price it's pretty great!
