Tiffen 72mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
Used best at right angle to the sun
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras

72mm Circular Polarizing Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 166.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective Polarizer for the Price As a photographic hobbyist, I use a polarizer to reduce glare and darken blue skies. This Tiffen polarizer, while being a lower cost alternative to higher priced multicoated products, offers excellent results with only marginal loss of light. The product is well designed and manufactured. It functions as designed and intended. The thread engage smoothly with the camera lens or other filters. The rotation of the polarizer is smooth with the proper amount of resistance so as to maintain the orientation of the filter after it is positioned. I would recommend this to friends, and would repurchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy I purchased this filter after having a professor recommended getting one for black and white, landscape photography. Clouds pop a lot more and the sky becomes filled with much richer tones than usual. If you have even worn a pair of polarized sunglasses then you should have a very good idea of what the effect will look like. I think this is an essential to have not only to add more tones to your images but to help reduce glare in certain shooting scenarios. The fact that it is circular filter is a fantastic feature, allowing you to control the effect so you can make sure the lens is filtering the light properly for your shot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have gotten this sooner. I take a lot of pictures at carshows and airshows and have been working on a calendar for some models that pose with lowriders and minitrucks. This has given me a night and day difference on shots that have reflections or glare from the sunlight on them. For instance, there was a shot I did that had the windshield of the car blasted out, turning an otherwise good picture into a complete turd. I took the same shot again with the polarizer mounted and it's almost as if the windshield isn't there. Airshow pictures resulted in nice, deep blue skies and I'm just generally ending up with better color as shot and not having to do as much, if any, postprocessing.I'm thoroughly pleased with this thing ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter for the price! I'm not a professional photographer, however I ordered 5 filters all made by Tiffen (UV and Polarized) and I'm very pleased with them all! This particular filter screws on very easily, is very secure and rotates for selecting the perfect amount of polarizing. The frame is small enough that you can add other filters on top of this without worrying about them being in your imagery. It also comes with a nice durable plastic case that I use for storing it when I have an alternate filter on my camera. In conclusion, I would recommend this filter!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor mechanical build I bought this filter to use on an 18-200mm zoom. The optics seem to be good. And it mounts easily to the lens threads. The biggest weakness is that the filter element mount is loose in the lens mount section. This type of filter requires 2 sections for the rotation function. I feel the looseness/jiggle, perhaps a millimeter. The looseness makes it hard to set and keep the setting. Filters and lens threads can vary by temperature. This one seems to cause more problems than others. I can't recommend the Tiffen Cir. Polarizer flter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value After upgrading my camera and buying a new lens, my funds were very limited. I needed a polarizer for an upcoming waterfall shoot and could not afford a high end filter. But I didn't want a piece of junk either. I did some research and decided to try this one and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The polarizer did its job and the construction and durability were fine. It doesn't turn as smoothly as my higher end filter, and the affect isn't quite as even, but considering the price difference that is to be expected. As a rule, you should always buy the best filters you can afford. At the time, this was the best option and I was not disappointed. Given the price, this is a great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Undefined Feature I have purchased 3 Tiffen polarized filters in total, this was the first. The follow on was because of the performance of this low-cost filter. A surprising feature of this filter is that the polarizer has a manually rotatable lens ring. This rotation enables the user to choose the sun reflection off of still water at a 45 or less degree angle. While I will be the first to say it is not mathematically quantifiable the correction allotted by the stated rotation. I will also say that with the A7R and the A6000 from Sony, it does allow auto focus to change the depth of water visibility under 70+mm zoom. Use: Ocean, Still Water, Low Tide, No Tide, Sun facing on waterfall. Great Features: Solid Construction, Self Rotating Filter. Cons: I am not certain however I would guess 90 to 95% light penetration. This means I would not suggest this filter for near dusk situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Polarizing Filter - A Must Have Always buy a product with a great reputation like Tiffen. Always buy from a dealer with a great reputation like B & H. I spend half my year in Florida and the other half in Oregon. Since I'm always drawn to locations with water and of course want to take the best pictures in those locations, I could not go without my polarizing filter. Like everyone, I shop for good value and good quality. You can tell the Tiffen circular polarizing glass filter is well made just by holding it. It makes dramatic differences on my photots. As the saying goes Don't Leave Home Without It.
