Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 Overview

The ELC Pro HD 1000 Flash Head from Elinchrom is evidence of the company's continued commitment to pushing the envelope in monolight design. Elinchrom has packed the ELC Pro HD 1000 with professional features we've come to expect from a flash head of this caliber and added quite a bit more. An intelligent low noise, temperature activated fan keeps the head cool and lengthens the life of both the flash tube and modeling lamp. A pre-flash detector lets you integrate your on-camera flash into your studio system.

Power, variable continuously from 7 to 1,000W/s, can be mimicked by the 300W proportional modeling lamp to preview your effects. Although Elinchrom provides one, you can swap the sync cord with a separately purchased 8-channel transceiver for wireless triggering from your camera. The head has one built-in to receive the signal. Flash modes allow you to address special situations. The Sequential Mode enables triggering up to 20 ELCs in bursts or in a continuous cycle. Delayed Mode offers a choice of first or second curtain syncing while Strobo Mode allows single frame stroboscopic action sequences. Finally, the auto-sensing multi-voltage power supply means that you can use the ELC Pro HD 1000 anywhere in the world.

question

If i buy ELC Pro HD 500/100 from the USA , can I use it in Europe?
Asked by: Georgi K.
As the Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 Flash Head's operating voltage is listed as 90 - 265 VAC, 50/60 Hz, yes, it may be used in European countries. However, if the country you are visiting uses 220-240V voltage, you would need to purchase either the Sylvania / Osram Lamp (300W/230V), B&H # SY300W230V, or the Kaiser Halogen Lamp 300W 230V 3200K, B&H # KAHALGLAMP, for use as the modeling lamp, as the included modeling lamp is designed for use on 100-120V current and would not be compatible for use in Europe. Also, do note that you would have to use a plug adapter to convert the USA plug to the plug type used in the country in which you will be using the strobe unit.

question

can you run the ELC off of the Quadra Ranger?
Asked by: Anonymous
Since the ELC Pro HD 1000 Flash Head is a monolight unit, you would not be able to plug it into a Elinchrom Ranger Quadra for battery power. The Ranger Quadra uses its own set of heads to work with it. To use the ELC Pro HD 1000 on location without wall power, you might want to consider the following product from Profoto:http://bhpho.to/1gn08D0

question

Does this 1000 have high speed sync capability?
Asked by: Jeff
Elinchrom states that the Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 is not optimized for Hi-Sync usage. High shutter speeds might produce unexpected results, depending on the flash unit, power levels, camera model, and sensor size.

question

I hear a lot about how previous Elinchrom users complain that the Elinchrom mount is not very sturdy and can wear out easily. Can someone clarify and share their experience with this issue? Has the mount on your strobe (and any light modifiers) worn out yet, or do they function fine?
Asked by: Yi Fan C.
I have mounted and unmounted two ELC 1000s on and off Manfrotto, Impact, and other various stands I would say .... a thousand, two thousand times? Never had a problem with the mount not being solid, no play once it's tightened.
