The ACU1049A KVM Switching Extender (VGA/PS/2) over CAT5 Dual-Access Extender Kit by Black Box, comprised of a local transmitter unit and a remote receiver unit, enables you to place a VGA monitor, a PS/2 keyboard, and a PS/2 mouse as far as 1000' from your PC's CPU, using a CAT5 cable. This extender supports video resolutions of up to 1280 x 1024 at 393.7' and 1024 x 768 at 984.3'. An integrated KVM switch enables you to connect a CPU to the remote unit. The remote unit switches between the local CPU and the remote CPU with a simple keyboard code. A dual-access model, the ACU1049A also enables you to connect a local workstation (VGA monitor, PS/2 keyboard & PS/2 mouse) to the local unit. The two workstations contend with each other for CPU control. When one of stations assumes control, the "double private mode" prevents conflicts by locking out the second one.
The local unit is connected directly to a PC's CPU or to the user port of a KVM switch using the included extension cable, and the remote KVM console is attached to the remote unit. The remote unit features brightness and focus dials to adjust the screen image. Because the extender performs complete PS/2 keyboard and mouse emulation, you can boot the PC without having a keyboard or mouse attached to it. You can also unplug and replug the keyboard and mouse without disrupting the operation of the PC. The extender requires no software and is compatible with all operating systems.
The remote unit draws its power from the included external supply, and the local unit is powered by the connection from the CPU's keyboard port. Jumpers on the remote unit's board enable you to configure an equalization-adjustment range appropriate to the length of the cable connecting the local and remote units, and rotary controls on the remote unit enable you to adjust the compensation level while the system operates. The extender is compatible with Microsoft IntelliMouse and other wheel mice.
