KRK Rokit 5 G3 overview

  • 1Description

The white Rokit 5 G3 from KRK is a 50W two-way active studio monitor for your home or professional studio. Equipped with a bi-amped, class A/B amplifier that powers a 5" woofer and a 1" tweeter, the Rokit 5 G3 is designed to offer maximum headroom with minimal distortion. The soft-dome tweeter, which provides extended response up to 35 kHz, is designed with a proprietary waveguide that is optimized for improved imaging. The aramid glass composite woofer has been engineered to deliver a clear response in the midrange along with a tight low end.

The speaker is housed in a low resonance enclosure that includes a factory installed foam pad at the bottom to provide improved isolation from the surface it's set upon. Under the woofer there is a front firing port that provides an extended low frequency response while reducing boundary coupling at the same time. Additionally, the enclosure features radiused edges that reduce distortion caused by diffraction.

The Rokit 5 G3 also provides flexible connectivity, allowing for input via XLR, TRS or RCA connection. It also provides both low and high frequency adjustments so you can tailor the speaker's response curve to your personal taste.

    KRK Rokit 5 G3 reviews

    Rokit 5 G3 - 50W 5" Two-Way Active Studio Monitor (Single, White) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice balanced sound really nice for a small studio. mine is about 12x12 feet. if your studio is larger, i would consider the 6 inch. the sound is smooth and accurate. they are not fatiguing at all. you can work on them all day. i use them on an iMac, and i recommend a USB to XLR audio interface. don't try using the headphone jack on an iMac or MacBook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home studio gold :) I bought a pair of these after reading some great reviews (specifically ones by people in home studios). I had to upgrade after my old Samson Rubicons bit the dust in a power surge. They still worked, but one operated at half power. Plus, their bass response was always very wimpy. The Rokits, however, have GREAT bass response, and I don't even have the bass eq knob turned all the way up. I would definitely recommend these to home studio owners. Not just for the great price, but for the EQ knobs on the back. Home studios are notorious for having bad room acoustics, so these will definitely help level out the sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super clean sound I'm a filmmaker and edit my own work and got these for improved dialogue and music mixing. My very old AltecLansing speakers were getting muddy and I was missing details as they were coloring the sound too much. These are much clearer, although they were also quite a bit larger than I was expecting. I easily could have done with the next size down for my desktop editing suite but they were only $10 difference. In the end it wasn't worth the hassle of exchange so I kept them. They do produce a really nice quality of sound but are light on the low end. I plan on upgrading with the subwoofer at a later date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Sound from a Small Package We have an editor that always wants to push his videos a little further so I decided to get him some professional studio monitors. We have audio coming directly out of a Blackmagic card into a compact mixer and into these. The setup is a little more complicated than I like, but the sound from these is on a different level. His videos sound even more amazing now than they did before.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice for the price I have two audio-video editing workstations equipped with Mackie HR624 monitors. One of those speakers failed recently, and I bought the Rokit 5's to fill in and continue working while the Mackie was being repaired. I thought I might even like them enough to leave them in place permanently. I like that these monitors are small, and the quality-to-price ratio can't be beat. They sound good in general and have remarkably deep and smooth bass response for such a small driver. They would probably be great with a matched subwoofer, but one isn't essential to get good sound out of these. The stereo image is tight and focused. They can play at painfully loud levels in my small workrooms without distortion. After using them a few days, it did become apparent that there was a slightly rough quality in the lower midrange that was especially distracting on male voices. Also, their output is extremely directional -- you have to position the speakers and your head just right to get the best sound, and even listening to them from an off angle across the room sounds dull. I found listening to them to be tiring after a few hours -- probably because I had to be so careful to hold my head in the right place all the time. So I removed them from front-line service after about a week when I was able to get the original Mackie monitor repaired. But these will live on, for sure -- I purchased a case for them and will carry them as my preferred monitors when I go out to do field recording (mostly classical/jazz/acoustic folk music). Their small size, durable cabinet finish and good bass and volume capability will serve admirably there, although knowing that I'll probably finish my mixes on smoother monitors once I get home. At about a third the price of my slightly larger Mackies, they were still a good bargain. In general I don't go for flashy-looking equipment, but the yellow speaker cone and light-up logo are fun and distinctive. I do wish they could have combined the front panel light with a power switch so you don't have to reach around back to turn them on and off. I'll definitely include some of the higher-end KRK models when I'm shopping for monitors in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exactly what I expected Set these up on a edit bay for stereo monitoring. For the money, they are pretty incredible- not sure if I would do any high level mixing on these but certainly for editing and dialogue they are great. I would definitely use the XLR inputs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent product for the money! I have a very humble home recording setup and needed to upgrade to better studio monitors than what I had. Through a reccomendation from a drummer friend, I purchased a pair of Rokit 5G3's. After setting these babies up, I was blown away! They are very nuetral, clean yet solid. They reproduce your music the way it was designed to be heard; Faithfully! Even though these monitors are nuetral, they really handle bass frequencies well for a 5 woofer. What's great about these monitors is they don't take up a lot of real estate. They are solidly manufactured and each monitor has the same power configuration and controls. This way you can balance the output to match each other and to room acuostics. Lastly, they produce a high SPL; so you have volume to spare. What's not so great about these babies is that because of their reasonable price some folks might not take the monitors seriously. And that would be a big mistake!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a small space I bought a pair of Rokit 5's for some podcasting and lightweight audio engineering in a small, lightly sound-treated basement room. They work extremely well and fill the space with no effort at all. Clarity is great, especially for the money. These aren't $5,000 B&W's, nor do they pretend to be, but at $125 each, I don't think you'll find better sound quality.
