Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

The black Sony E mount Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye II Lens is a prime fisheye lens specifically designed for APS-C sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm and full 180° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for creative applications as well as interior and architectural subjects. Its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, the lens' design features a built-in lens hood and a UMC coating has been applied to the lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

180° fisheye lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm, making it ideally suited for interior and architectural subjects.

Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 reviews

8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye II Lens for Sony E Mount (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely sharp lens at a bargain price This lens is amazingly sharp and considering it's low price it's a bargain. While the rectangular fisheye design causes a lot of peripheral curvature, this can be easily corrected in post production with profiles available online (or you can make the profile yourself with a free program.)It is manual focusing but I leave it set at 1' and everything from that distance to infinity is sharp. On the a6000 you can use aperture priority and the camera sets the shutter speed. It is well constructed comes with a built in (non removable)shade and a lens cap. I would buy this lens again without hesitation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality for a low price Excellent lens. It's a fast (f2.8), manual focus, ultra-wide fish eye lens with no electronic aids outside of what your camera body offers. Great for squeezing in a lot of detail into one shot. A must buy for those looking to photograph indoor and outdoor architecture, landscapes, or if you're looking for that distorted, ultra wide fisheye look. The lens is inexpensive because it does not have AF, zoom, or electronic components; in no way is this lens cheap or flimsy, nor does it feel as such. The image quality is very good and the product itself feels very high quality; this includes weight, materials, and build quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Fun Lens! I'm a beginner photographer so take from this what you will. I have 7 years experiance shooting (video) TV shows so I'm not a complete noob.. I found this lens to be very very fun.. It was hard to stop shooting on it. The biggest challenege was getting the focus correct and it took a while for me to correctly judge distances to nail it regualrly. That's probably where some of my inexperiance with a small manual lens came in. This lens handels direct sunlight amazigly well. Shooting straight into the sun at times produced images that were actually vert well balanced and lens flare looked nice IMO. Very happy with it! I also makes my a6000 look a bit more retro as well.. I kinda like that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good lens I found it harder to focus with this lens than I expected. It does produce a solid image though when you nail focus. On my a6300, I found focus peaking to not be remotely helpful because throughout the entire focus range, the same areas would be highlighted but when shooting, they wouldn't actually be in focus. I ended up turning off focus peaking and just going off what I see in the EVF and had better results but still a bit tricky. Don't believe the hype that everything will just be in focus at infinity on UWA lenses, that's not true. But for the wideness and price, it's hard to complain much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this lens is just great!! This is an APC size lens and is totally manual just for reference. The rokinon 8mm f 2.8 is a great piece of glass, it is very sharp. more than I expected for the price. i use it in my sony a6000 and I just get Great sharp images in every part of the image ( center and corners ) at all f stops, even better from 2.8 to 8. a little blurred in corners , but better than my zeiss 24-70 f/2.8 ( sal2470z ) on 24. It is just amazing. and sharper than one of my full frame favorite wide angle lens on A mount, the sigma 12-24. pretty small, goes just perfect on the A6000. Feels very well built. metallic and smooth. It is not stabilized, but at this range of wide angle you just don't need or feel the need of stabilize anything. You don't gonna feel disappointed getting this gem to your camera bag. highly recommended from me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome lens for the price great buy. I adore fish eye effect is the most versatile lens out there. i am having so much fun with this lens that i haven't put it down for weeks. It works amazingly well in low light plus in hard light perform beautiful. manual focus make it amazing because it lets you chose for yourself instead having the camera do everything for you. the pics are awesome i was able to catch the northern light with it and it made me so happy. great buy i strongly recommended. you will get your moneys worth.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp! I'm shocked by how sharp this lens is, even wide open. By f/5.6 you are really in for a treat. f/2.8 works surprisingly well for some fun barrel distorted portraits, even in low light. I would give it 5 stars but the focus is a little slow and takes some getting used to. The focus peaking in the a6000 definitely helps to get the hang of things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Super Wide Angle and Fisheye On a recent shoot I was frustrated that I could not get wide enough with the 10-18. One of the other attendees had a fisheye and was. I started looking at fisheye lens and the Rokinon was on sale. Snapped it up from B&H. The fisheye gives another creative POV option but to my surprise if I opt for the lens correction in LR it allows for a 8mm linear capture. Happy, Happy, Happy.
