Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

The black, Sony E-Mount Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Lens is a prime wide-angle lens designed specifically for use with APS-C sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 18mm and a broad 98.9° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for architectural, interior, and landscape images. Its fast f/2.0 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, a Nano Coating System (NCS) has been applied to the lens elements in order to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery

    Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 reviews

12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Lens for Sony E-Mount (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 160.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted I took this lens for its first real test out in the Mojave Desert. I came back with some shots that I really like. This lens is sharp and produces great detail on my a6000. The wide aperture is great for shooting the night sky. The wide focal length is perfect for the types of landscape and nature subjects I like to shoot. The close focusing distance makes this lens great for dramatic perspectives. The focus ring is a little too stiff but it's really not a big deal. For a lens of this type, you probably won't need AF anyway so full manual is just fine with me, especially considering the price and image quality. I would highly recommend this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid for Astro Photography I bout this for the Pleiades meteor shower (08.16) and I have to say it was great. The stiffer focus ring is actually a bonus for working in the dark and the expanded perspective of 12mm made foreground object just a little more interesting. Last time I shot the stars I rented the Sony 16-35 f4 and while it was fine, the extra speed of the Rokinon f2 made a big difference. It's also 1/4 the price :-) I shoot on a Sony a7, so while I lost the corners (this is an APS-C lens) the images that I did get I'm really happy with. It's sharp and fast, and reasonably priced for a lens I'm not going to use everyday. I'm happy to have it in my bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good lens I love this lens, I like 12mm focal lens on my A6000, its equal to 18mm on a full frame camera. Even though this is a manual lens but its very easy to get focus using focus peaking in A6000. This lens is sharp enough at f/2 and because of only 12mm so I can set the shutter speed to 1/20 hand held in low light situation and still get good results. Build quality is very good, lens hood is included. Not to forget B&H shipping and handling is very professional, this is my first purchase at B&H, I live in Canada and I get my lens 4 days after ordering it with free shipping, awesome. Very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent addition to lens for my Sony A6000! I use lens for landscape work and I am very impressed with the sharpness.Manual focus is no problem and setting the sony in aperture priority works well with good results in the camera choosing the proper shutter speed for excellent exposure results. Also focus peaking seems be accurate as a focus aid.I am very pleased so far and have no negative experiences to relate.Detail remains very sharp even in above average enlargements. This lens is a great value and a great addition to my lens collection. Some have noted distortion issues but all I have noted are those that appear when ever the camera is raised above the level plane or below it, when level results are superb!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great UWA option for photo on budget I bought it second hand. UWA isn't my primary shooting prefence, hence I didn't want to spend substancial amont of money in another Zeiss lens. So, I decided to give a try to Rokinon based on reviews of the lens. This lens did not disappoint! It delivers excellent contrast and sharpness across the frame. At wide open sharpness is very good at the center and it improves to excellent when stop down a little. Borders wide open are a little soft but when stopped down improved dramatically and you get great IQ. The landscape image attached shows how sharp the lens is. In one of them you will observe unneven polarization of the sky but it was my fault.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best manual wide field for Sony-E I bought this lens almost three months ago. For the promotional price I paid it was almost a steal. It fills all my wide angle needs for my Sony a6000. This is a wonderful lens, it is very sharp, at f/2, a feature that really surprised me. I did some Milky Way testing with an equatorial mount and the pinpoint size and color rendition of the stars are amazing. It has a slight CA and astigmatism at f/2, but it disappears at f/2.4, only half stop away. The ED elements do their work here. Focus peaking works perfectly in my a6000. The lens is mechanically outstanding for this price tag. Thanks to the salesman at the NYC store for suggesting me this lens, I love it!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens, though not entirely perfect Excellent sharpness, and the price is not a factor here! Because the sharpness scores the overall top of the E-mount lenses. This baby handles vignetting pretty well too. CA available, but low. So good optically. There are two minor drawbacks to be addressed by the manufacturer - 1) the lens should have an aperture chip to provide the camera with he aperture value, and 2) the manufacturer should have greased the focusing ring with a cold-resistant lube, because the ring gets incredibly stiff in low temperatures. For other than than - strongly recommended for the Sony APS-Cs!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sharp; Good Value While I am used to autofocus lenses in my declining eyesight old age, I bought this lens because of the excellent reviews and modest price. I intended to use it for night sky photography since it is the fastest ultra wide angle prime lens for e-mount Sony. The lens is ideal for the purpose. I photographed the Milky Wat beautifully in rural Tennessee after the moon set. There are thousands of stars in each image at f/2, 20 seconds @ ISO 2000. I'm happy with the lens optically. Two gripes are (1) the lens mount is solid but can be moved slightly. If you are careful, this isn't a problem. (2) with no electronic connection, Sony's manual focus magnification feature is not triggered so precise infinity focus for pinpoint stars requires effort. Overall: The 12mm meets the requirements for good night sky photography.
