Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 Reviews

Pretty nice lens

I haven't had much of a chance to use this yet. Just enough to confirm this is a good copy. I compared it to my Fuji 14mm and it compared fairly well. Not as contrasty but plenty sharp and Just a little wider. It focuses pretty close and the bokeh is attractive. Vignetting at f2 and 2.8 is pretty bad. but it's easily cleaned up in post. vignetting is gone by f4.

Good manual 12mm F2 at a great price w a few warts

I bought this lens instead of Oly 12mm due to price & reviews that said it was sharper. It seems good wide open with only slight softness away from the center. At this angle of view, manual fopcus is no issue. I have it on an Oly OMD M1 and with peaking and magnify. Besdies the low price, I also appreciate that is it fairly light weight. The reason I took off one star is that my copy was a bit loose on my OMD body which was disappointing. Also, as others have mentioned the distance scale was not exactly lined up with the true focus point fo the lens - not a major issue with magnify preview BUT still an issue w quality control. The second reason for dissappointment was the design decision to use a 67mm filter thread - they could have designed it with a 62mm, then the lense would be more compact and take cheaper filters. Especially true for me, since several of my Oly lenses are 62mm so I would be able to reuse expensive ND and CPL filters. Eventually splurged for the Panasonic 12mm F1.4 and sold off my Rokinon.

Very Happy

I ordered this lens for shooting the Milky way and am very happy with it. It was sent out right away and I received it sooner than expected. It was great to do business with BH.

Good for Aurora

I took this lens and the Viltrox 13 mm f/1.4 to Lofoten, Norway for a workshop (my son and I were sharing lenses). The Rokinon has an advantage over the Viltrox in that it the infinity mark on the (manual) Rokinon focus control is accurate, so can easily be set in the dark for Aurora/Milky Way photography. The Viltrox is focus by wire so is it a bit more difficult to focus on stars. Both provided great images.

question

Will this lens work on the Sony A7II?
Asked by: Jeremy L.
Yes, it works on my fabulous A7ii, but it depends on what you plan to do with it. Wide open, the lens isn't as sharp as expected. Stop it down a little and then things are ok, given that this is an extreme wide-angle lens which will always have certain limitations. What's more, the infinity index on the barrel isn't accurate. If you put it to infinity, objects three kilometers away are not in focus. Focus magnifying solves the problem, of course. I intended to use it for landscapes and astrophotography but I'm slightly disappointed because the lens can hardly be used wide open. I guess the lens is more suited for an APS-C camera such as the a6000. I'm planning on selling it. According to the manufacturer the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 should work better on a full-frame such as the A7ii.
