Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 Overview

Bought this lens to photograph mostly landscapes while traveling. As soon as I attached it to my Fuji XT3 I didn't get a reading for the f stop (only showed F0) and was not able to take a photo after pressing the shutter

Works well with my Canon M50. Nice size and balance. Images are very sharp once you get dialed in to the manual focus.

Excellent Lens for Nightscape Photography

Incredibly sharp edge-to-edge with very good sagittal astigmatism performance even wide open at f/2. The manual focus of this lens is actually easier to work with than on the hyper-sensitive manual focus by wire design of Fuji's lenses. The 12mm focal length is also just about perfect as it wide enough to capture wide swaths of the night sky and yet not so wide as to cause excessive perspective distortion of foreground objects. The best wide-angle lens for night sky photography with the Fuji-X system that I have seen.

great value

tested it in astrophotography. image quality is great (no astigmatism/ coma till the corners). on the down side, the large number of lenses may swallow a little bit of light. unfortunately, was not able to upload example picture

Good manual 12mm F2 at a great price w a few warts

I bought this lens instead of Oly 12mm due to price & reviews that said it was sharper. It seems good wide open with only slight softness away from the center. At this angle of view, manual fopcus is no issue. I have it on an Oly OMD M1 and with peaking and magnify. Besdies the low price, I also appreciate that is it fairly light weight. The reason I took off one star is that my copy was a bit loose on my OMD body which was disappointing. Also, as others have mentioned the distance scale was not exactly lined up with the true focus point fo the lens - not a major issue with magnify preview BUT still an issue w quality control. The second reason for dissappointment was the design decision to use a 67mm filter thread - they could have designed it with a 62mm, then the lense would be more compact and take cheaper filters. Especially true for me, since several of my Oly lenses are 62mm so I would be able to reuse expensive ND and CPL filters. Eventually splurged for the Panasonic 12mm F1.4 and sold off my Rokinon.

I ordered this lens for shooting the Milky way and am very happy with it. It was sent out right away and I received it sooner than expected. It was great to do business with BH.

question

Would this lens work with the SLR Magic Anamorphot adapter?
Asked by: derek
No, sorry, the focal length is too short. Depending on the sensor of the camera you are using, 35mm or 50mm will be the correct choices.

All Micro Four Thirds format cameras (Olympus, Panasonic) have the same mount. If the G85 is Micro Four Thirds, this lens will work with it.

question

I own a BMPCC and an SLR MAGIC anamporphot adapter. Does anyone know if this lens is too wide for the adapter or is the 35mm equivalent long enough to keep me from getting vignetting?
Asked by: derek
It is too wide. The 12mm is a 24mm equivalent in full frame terms, and the lens needs to be at least 35mm in full frame to not vignette.

question

When using this lens, I get black corners in my pictures, it looks like I am looking thru a tube, is there something wrong with lens, or am I doing something wrong? The viewfinder also shows this black distortion.
Asked by: Moses
Sony makes both APS-C and full frame cameras that use the Sony E-Mount. If you are using an APS-C camera and see black corners, something may be wrong and you might want to get it serviced. If you are using it on a full-frame camera then you bought the wrong lens for your camera. The primary symptom of using this lens on a full-frame camera would be vignetting, a darkening of edges and especially dark corners.
