1TB Desktop Performance Caviar Black HDD Retail Kit (WD1003FZEX) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mid range size workjorse HDDs. I bought multiple 1 TB WD Black drives for clones and backups in conjunction with a variety of desktops, and to supplement my NAS WD unit. These are great workhorses and I find 1 TB and 2 TB sizes the most convenient. Clones are particularly useful for keeping the computers in service with scarcely an interruption whenever I encounter a hard drive or software problem. I have never had a WD drive go bad and if you have a WD drive you can use Acronis clone program. WD edition free. The retail version includes the mounting screws which are otherwize difficult to find when you need some. Often I find a new computer has several screws missing. Cons:None.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best simple solution for gaming or media storage At this price point, you are getting excellent speeds and plenty of storage for modern day media and gaming. 5 year warranty puts this drive above all others in its range, FIVE YEARS. Peace of mind for important game saves or priceless family photos. This drive is very light compared to my other WD black drives (2T, 4T), VERY light. The others feel like a heavy brick in your hand, this does not. I use it for gaming and that's it, no issues, load times are relatively close to my experience with gaming on SSDs drives. We're talking seconds here, so my experience was very pleasant. Its a great drive, don't hesitate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WD Caviar Black, improving with Age I've relied on WD Caviar drives for over a decade and each release has been better and just as reliable in my experience. They're fast and come with WD's best consumer warranty, 5 years. This version is also quieter than the previous model and about 30% faster by my estimation. I bought two and they're running nicely in a software RAID 0 inside a Hackintosh (home-built PC running Macintosh OS) used for video editing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WD is Back On Top Again This drive is the Master HD in my graphics desktop and now I can depend on its' quality not to crash. Set up was as easy as it can be and the packaging was very well designed. I purchased 2 of these drives for both of my Master Desktop workstations as OS and program only drives. I will buy much larger WD Black HDs for mass storage and back up. Great HD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from tested OK, no bad sectors, runs quiet, cool, fast, like a WD I have bought several drives from here. This WD Black 1TB is for a new PC gaming build, for file storage, applications, and OS image backup, etc. The boot drive is a Samsung SSD, which I also purchased from B&H, here. My experience has been, I find really good prices here for memory & storage, on brands like WD, and fast free shipping. Good - drive passed a 48hr stresstest with no errors. Stayed cool and quiet the entire stresstest. Registered it thru WD, it's a retail kit, so it has 5 year warranty. Not so good - it's never free. Reasonable, yes; free, no.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great combination of performance and value I recently purchased three of these to replace 6-year-old Seagate drives on my sound production computer (one for the OS, one for audio, one for sample/video files). The Seagate drives worked perfectly for me; my main motivation for the upgrade was disk space. I contemplated getting an SSD for my primary drive, but I probably would have only noticed a marginal increase in performance with the age of my MOBO. Other than digging around in the computer chassis, installation was pretty straightforward. I used WD's free True Image cloning software (available through their website) to copy all of the data from my old drives. I was slightly concerned about copying over the OS, but everything worked without a hitch. I have already used these drives in several editing sessions and am happy with their performance. And to my delight, they're even quieter than my previous drives. If and when I upgrade my computer, I definitely feel comfortable bringing these drives along.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable Hard Drive This was used to replace a failing HD that was used for data storage in a desktop. Installation was easy and the data load went smoothly. I've use WD Caviar Black hard drive for years without any problems. SSD's are used for the O?S and programs and WD HHD's for the data storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked as promised Its a hard drive, so its a little difficult to evaluate over the course of a few days. I used this to replace a failing drive in my RAID array on my main desktop computer. The drive after installation spun up, was immediately recognized, and went into service rebuilding my degraded arrray. No hiccups as far as I can tell. I did not run a SMART test first, so can't comment from that perspective. One note, I bought the retail box version of this drive because the OEM version was not in stock and, ironically, the retail box version was slightly cheaper anyway. Since I don't usually buy boxed versions, I was expecting more than I got. Apart from the pretty retail box, you get some pretty small mounting screws which did not seem long enough for most mounting situations, the paper guarantee, and some cryptic paper instructions. Surprisingly (too me) no connection cables were included. There ought to be a law! I didn't mark WD down for this because my guess is that this is a universal practice by most if not all manufacturers. But remember to pick up a power cable and a SATA connection cable if you don't have one already.
