One aspherical element is featured in the optical design to limit distortion and spherical aberrations in order to realize a high degree of sharpness and clarity. The product comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's packaging. It includes all the manufacturer's accessories.

Compact standard zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs, and offers a 28.8-88mm equivalent focal length range.
One aspherical element is used to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to maintain sharpness and clarity.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
An STM stepping AF motor realizes smooth, near-silent autofocus that is complemented by advanced AF algorithms and a high-speed CPU for fast AF performance. Additionally, full-time manual focus override is also available.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Reviews

Amazing lens for the price

Before I bought this lens I had the standard, non-STM kit lens that came with my old T3i. However, after buying the Canon 55-250mm STM, I knew I had to replace my current lens with the STM version. The autofocus is extremely quick and quite. Not only this, but the STM lenses don't rotate the external lens element so you can use polarizing filters and not have to rotate them from photo-to-photo. This is a massive advantage if you use a polarizing filter a lot like I do. If you're look for a good standard, mid-range focal length lens then this is a great choice, especially if you're on a budget. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

I informally tested it against the Sigma ex dc 2.8 from a few years ago and it appears to be sharper, also has the stabilizer. It's a little slower but I use flash most of the time. It's also lighter and smaller. I like the extra sharpness I get from it with the 50D and the camera I will go to next.

Bought this lens for my wife to put on my old T2i for starters. Both her and I were quite pleasantly surprised by the image quality that she achieved with this on her first day out! Wonderful starter lens to say the least. Humm... I may use this as well as a backup for my Sigma 17-70 2.8-4! (When she's not looking.)

Nice backup.

I purchased this for use as a backup lens on Canon 70D and 7DmII. It works well with sharp focus for both video and stills.

Is this lens compatible on a 5d III?
Asked by: Douglas T.
The Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens will not be compatible with the 5D III, no. The full frame cameras, such as the 5D III, are not compatible with the EF-S lenses. The EF-S lenses will physically not mount on the full frame cameras.

Will this work on the EOS R in 4K crop mode?

Will this work on the EOS R in 4K crop mode?
Asked by: NICHOLAS
When used with a lens adapter (such as either the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, B&H # CAMAEFRF, or the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, B&H # CAMAEFRFCR), yes, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens may be used on the Canon EOS R Mirrorless Digital Camera in 4K crop mode. Do note that the 4K crop mode on the Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera is approximately 1.8x, so your lens will appear slightly less wide than the lens used on a standard APS-C sensor.
