    Olympus LG-1 reviews

    LG-1 LED Macro Ring Light for TG-1, TG-2, TG-3, TG-4, and TG-5 Cameras is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from macro ring light works This is one of those simple gizmos that either do the job or turn out to be a piece of junk. I've found that it does the job it's designed for -- a light guide for the LED for extremely close macro work. It does provide adequate light, even when the lens is just mm s from the target Since I use the camera in dim and wet forest floor conditions to document insects, fungi, etc, this is a nice find. Drawbacks -- looks pretty fragile, and I need to find a protective case. I'd also love to have a light guide that also works in conjunction with the 2X extender for really tiny objects. It's still a nice item that extends the usefulness of the already capable TG cameras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worthwhile Product My experience is that the TG-3 almost always requires some type of additional light when used in microscope mode. This light ring lights up the area evenly and allows full use of the macro/microscope mode. Note that this light ring has no electronics (led, etc) and really should be called a light guide as it used the cameras built in led and evenly spreads the lights around the subject. This light guide is probably the one accessory that allows full use of the TG-3's microscope mode. Advantages: - No extra batteries require as it uses the cameras battery. - Does not seem to affect the sealant of the camera and can be used in inclement weather conditions. - Light weight Disadvantages: - Requires that a trim ring on around the lens be removed first before the light guide can be installed and then the cameras led needs to be turned on. - No way to only light a subject from only one or two directions (will always light subject 360 degrees). - Seems quite pricey for a couple of pieces of molded plastic (and being plastic I'm unwilling to put it in my pocket and see how it fares when I sit it unlike the rest of the camera). - Cannot go from macro photograph to flash photography without fist removing the light guide (or turning it to uncover the flash but that

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great option to illuminate macros Just got this. It clips right on the camera with very little increase in size. Turns the camera's existing small LED illuminator into a compact ring light. Small enough that I carried it on a 12 mile run in the redwoods and got some great shots of flowers in the shade of the forest floor that would have been impossible with the available natural light

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It greatly improves Macro shots!!! Used the Macro Ring Light on a Olympus TG-3 to take pictures of old coins. The improved light really helped bring out the details in the coins. Future use will be in taking closeup pictures of insects in the Galapagos Islands this coming May. The product arrived much faster then I expected. Great service!!! Thanks, Frank

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful enough, not great Need to practice with it to find the sweet spot. It blocks the flash - for no good reason at all, I chopped that part off. Now I can use either the flash or LED.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must buy item for TG-3 camera I bought Olympus TG-3 camera for the microscope features. So you have to buy this for LED illumination for close up photos. Much better choice compared to my DSLR, ring light, and macro lens combination. Anyone wants to do close up macro photos using a simple point and shoot camera, this is it, TG-3 and LG-1. Easy to carry around and very easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple ring light that works The TG-4 is a versatile camera that offers both basic and advanced features for users at all levels. The LG-1 Macro Ring Light is a simple solution to what could be a complex problem. Since the TG-4 will focus as close as 1/2 inch with its standard lens, the basic flash is not able to properly illuminate the scene. Traditional alternatives may involve external lights that would reduce the convenient, portable aspect of the camera. The LG-1 clips to the lens mount and redirects the camera's internal flash into the ring that diffuses the light, keeping the total package simple and portable. Although it is less flexible than a multi-flash setup, it's a lot less complicated. The LG-1 works quite well for macro scenes where basic, diffused lighting is all one needs.
