Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dramatically Improve the Look of Your Videos I received the product on Weds, practiced on Thurs and shot a production on Friday. Easy to setup and use! The build quality is excellent, strong and stable. I was able to mount it on my existing med/heavy duty tripod by removing my fluid head and using it on the jib with my Canon 7D. The sweeping views that the jib can provide impressed the client. I can't wait to shoot my next project and can't imagine shooting without it. You need to experiment as I needed to purchase a 10lb weight to balance my setup. I intend to add a rolling dolly to move the jib around instead of lifting and carrying.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Useful, small jib with warning notes We use small jibs for remote location shooting, landscapes, pro mountain bikers, etc. This jib (once working -- more on that in a moment) performs well if loaded a few pounds under stated limits. The quality is good for the price, although we find the jib tubes tough to collapse even when the tightening clamps are fully loosened (i.e., well past the 'break' points). Break-in time may solve that issue. When properly balanced, the unit delivers smooth shots, particularly in combo with a small Manfrotto fluid head to extend functionality. Unfortunately, the jib did not arrive operational. The included, dual-threaded bolt (two different thread-sizes on each end) meant to mount the jib on a 65-75mm bowl tripod was mismatched (significantly) to Varizoom's own gear/threads. B&H provided Varizoom contact info, but after an initial promise of a fix, Varizoom dropped the ball. To stay on schedule we had to find a machine shop to make a custom bolt ($55.00 + lost shoot time). Sadly, we can't go with Varizoom products again, at least via mail order. We'd suggest you only buy this jib if you are in-store and can physically check that all parts match, or have no imminent need for the unit given that we didn't find Varizoom very responsive. It's not fun to be on a (truly) remote shoot explaining to a client why you can't put a simple piece of brand new gear together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product! This product is great! I have used it quite a bit and love the amount of control that it gives me. I have only minor complaints and those are mostly due to the fact that the carrying case is so compact it does not allow space for even the included balancing weight to be placed inside of it. I also think that the adjustable end that holds the balancing weight could be better designed. I can't wait to use it more extensively. I am considering getting the track to go along with it as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Value with most features Compared this against the Kessler Pocket Jib, Aviator Travel Jib, Genus Travel Jib and none of them have all the features that this Varizoom has in one package. Telescoping balance bar Pan Base (which is EXTREMELY smooth) Vertical and Pan Brake (that isn't a hard stop brake) Counter weight included (not essential but nice to have) Bag (Others charge for this...) Portability (Parts fold out easily) Quick Release Plate included (No, it is not the same as the Manfrotto quick release plates for their video heads) Price So if you compared all these features with the other brand, you will know how good this Jib is (Surprised there isn't much or any online video review of this). The only drawback of this is that you can angle the head up or down but none of the others can anyways. Putting a ball or pan head in the front will fix this problem

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Good I bought this to use at a wedding with a reception in a large venue. I used it with a GH2 and a Bower 16mm Cine lens. The jib was mounted to a Davis and Sanford All Terain Pod. With this combo (the jib was fully extended) I was able to get a little over 9 ft. high. For the counter weight I used a 10lbs plate. Great control. Very smooth. Didn't wobble back and forth when I used good movement. Very satisfied. Pro. Very portable Sturdy Smooth jib movement whether fast or slow Con. The thumb screw to tighten the QR plate would hit the bottom of the camera so it was a little hard to get it tight but not impossible. I don't know if this is totally a con but it seems like a bowl mount tripod would be ideal because the connection to a flat mount (like what I was using) wasn't the best. Still able to get good shots but just had to be aware of that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Design, Performance, but... This is a well thought out design, and with good performance. I had a similar problem as previous poster, not useable without a kludged up arrangement of hardware to get it to interface with standard hardware, it has 3/8 - 16 threaded base, wasn't machined correctly. After contacting customer support, discussing issue a few times, realized, they were just not that interested in the problem. I was going to return it for another copy, then saw previous post with same problem, so I figured I'd get another unit with the same problem. After weighing options, figured out that a trip to the hardware store for a few items along with a Manfrotto 120DF got me going, about as much trouble as returning it and ordering a replacement jib. This Jib does the job. I would say if this product arrives and interfaces with your setup it should perform, mine does. Would I recommend it to a friend? Hmmm...depends on whether I wanted us to stay friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from simple and works well for a novice video user, the functionality of this unit is very convenient and allows great visual effects for small budget projects, After a few shots we start thinking in a remote control video head as next step. Suggestions are welcome for our evolution of fine video capture projects

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth and steady This unit is built sturdy enough to do the job right. Stockier than some similarly priced units means it will last longer and is less likely to fail during an important shoot. It's smooth operation is great even with light cameras and lots of motion.
