The 4TB My Passport Pro Portable RAID Storage Drive from Western Digital is bus powered eliminating the need for a separate power adapter, and comes with an attached 14" (35.6 cm) Thunderbolt cable. With plug and play functionality all you need to do is plug in the drive and it's good to go. Once plugged in you can begin taking advantage of typical data transfer rates of 230 MB/s and maximum data transfer rates of up to 10 Gb/s.

Along with enhanced data transfer rates, this My Passport drive features two separate drives within the anodized aluminum enclosure. These dual drives can be configured into RAID 0 for enhanced drive performance, RAID 1 to ensure the data stored on one drive is backed up on the other, or JBOD to use each drive independently.

Transfer, Back Up, Edit in Record Time

The My Passport Pro delivers both speed and portability with transfer rates as high as 230 MB/s allowing you to transfer, edit, compile and stream graphics-intensive files quickly.

No Power Adapter, No Extra Cables Required

Powered directly through the Thunderbolt port on your MacBook, My Passport Pro frees up space in your field kit by eliminating the need for an AC adapter. And with the integrated cable that is tethered to the drive, you'll never lose your Thunderbolt cable on location.

Durability for Your Workflow

The dual drives in My Passport Pro are housed within an anodized all-aluminum enclosure.

Works with Apple Time Machine

Once you've captured your images, you can transfer them and other files quickly with Apple Time Machine.

Keep Creativity Moving

Shipped in RAID 0 for maximum speed and capacity, My Passport Pro helps you edit and compile work quickly and efficiently.

Protect Data with RAID 1

Protect your work with RAID 1 mirror mode for double safe data protection. In this mode, the capacity is divided in half so that one half stores your data and the other half maintains a duplicate copy.

Fast Boot Drive

Store your system files on this drive and use it as a fast boot drive.

Plug-and-Play Setup

My Passport Pro is preformatted HFS+J, so it's ready to use with your Mac straight out of the box.

Ready When You Are

WD Diagnostics performs a S.M.A.R.T. status check on your drive in seconds so you know it's ready to go.

question

Im using mac & raid 1 set up. HFS+J set up or Exfat? Whats the difference?
Asked by: Adrian rene G.
exFAT will allow both Mac and Windows to read and write from the drive. Time Machine can only back up volumes which are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). If you are not going to use the drive between the 2 platforms, then format for HFS+J.

question

If you use this drive in mirrored mode for redundancy, what can you do if one of the drives fails?
Asked by: Mark M.
Good question. I believe this drive is primarily for capacity and speed, not redundancy. If it were mirrored and one drive failed, recovery would be possible but not easy. Probably have to send it off to WD or somewhere else to recover the data. Possible, but not probable or reasonable. Not a good solution, so treat this drive as one big honking storage unit, no more, no less.

If you are using the Mac OS, you can encrypt the disk in Disk Utility. (Click the Erase tab, then choose journaled, encrypted.) On Windows you can use BitLocker. For more information, click here: http://bit.ly/1F9R13e

4TB total. There are 2 2TB HDD's, so after RAID 1 you have 2TB's to work with. Hope that helps
