    Lensbaby 5.8mm f/3.5 reviews

5.8mm f/3.5 Circular Fisheye Lens for Canon EF is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for its intended purpose No, it's not a Canon L series lens, nor does it weigh as cost as much as one. My 5 star rating is simply based on how well it does the job its intended for, at its price point. Note that though it will mount on a full frame Canon body, the image circle will only fill the frame for an APS-C size sensor. For me, with it mounted on a 5D Mk. III, that's not a problem as I still have lots of pixels to mess around with. I bought it just to mess around with a fisheye for the fun of it, and for that purpose, it's a bargain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magical photos First off, having a fisheye lens is loads of fun. At 5.8 mm, this lens gives you the classic circular photos that look like they were taken inside a snowglobe. I have been using it on a full-frame Canon 5DM2. The photos are sharp and have the full circular vignette. This lens also makes beautiful sun-stars at f/22. Next, this is a Lensbaby lens. It takes a little getting used to, but is easy once you get the hang of it. Like other Lensbabies, it does not communicate with the camera. Set the camera to M- or Av-mode. Aperture is set on the lens. (This lens does not use the Lensbaby aperture disks.) I use the distance scale on the lens to help me focus. Exposure is the trickiest part and takes some adjustment. I thought this was a great bargain for a fisheye lens. The photos are unique and utterly delightful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First Thoughts about Fisheye Lens First thing I noticed was that the aperture adjustment is also manual. It may be that my camera was set up for Aperture Priority. Taking a couple of test shots, the LCD monitor was showing artifacts/flares in the imaged (outside of the base circle). I did not have this situation with the auxiliary lens. If this is what the specifications call as creative flare effect I thinks it detracts to the image. Thinking that perhaps this might not show in processed image, I loaded my test shots into the computer. Unfortunately, the flare is still there. Did some research on the Lensbaby web site, all of their example images show the same effect. It looks like I will need to create a mask for photoshop elements if I want to remove the flare effect. Being 185 deg view, I need to be careful that my stomach does not show in the bottom of the image.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fisheye This lens is fully compatible with our Canon APS-C size sensor cameras and is easy to use in spite of it being a manual lens (must manually adjust focus and aperture) We like the interesting effects provided by this fisheye lens and we are having fun learning how to get the images we desire. Special effects provided by this Lensbaby Fisheye is only limited by the user's imagination.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I went Fishing! I have always wanted to do something different in fun photography and in my professional photography life with clients, that includes weddings. The Lensbaby has this awesome flare and is so easy to use, plus its light weight and inexpensive. Drawback is that it's a manual lens vs. fully auto, happy note is that it also leaves you $ to the better and it tests your true photo skills in the f' stop area. Photos are sharp and crisp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Affordable Fancy Lens I've been searching for circular fisheye lens for ages & finally got it with affordable price. This lens create a great circular photos & I love the reflection surrounding the outer circle, it's like an extra 'Umphh' for the image. However there's one slight problem I found, that when you move the manual focus, it change the circular placement which it became a little bit cropped (not fully centered circular). But it wont cropped at infinite focus though, so it's not a major let down. Overall this is a great Circular Fisheye Lens with an affordable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for VFX HDRI's I bought this lens to use for creating HDRI's for lighting CG elements. For this purpose I would say there is nothing better anywhere near this price point. The one issue is some mild chromatic aberration near to the edges of the frame. Though this is actually pretty reasonable considering the FOV of this lens. It is also easily corrected. I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone looking to try panoramas on a non-full frame lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens for the price Really fun lens. Anyone with a little manual camera experience can operate this fisheye lens. No comparable lens in this price range on the market. Note that this lens yields circular images (check the Lensbaby website for more details). There are all kinds of creative applications for this lens. I have only had it for 2 weeks and already have a stack of great photos.
