Lensbaby 5.8mm Circular Fisheye is fun to use.

I had always wanted to try a circular fisheye; but they have been difficult to find. I like this one as it has a funky edge to the image, which makes it different. The only thing I object to is when you point it too much toward the sun as a light source there is a strange orange reflection in the image a80 degrees opposite to where the sun peeks into the frame. I think it is reflecting off the inner barrel of the lens. I wish they would try to eliminate this. If this little orange image of the unmasked sun were suppressed this would be a perfect lens. But, I still love the lens anyway.

Great little specialty-use lens. I rarely need a fish-eye lens, so it made no sense to invest in a Nikon. Along comes Lensbaby with a perfect solution at s modest price! Very happy with the lens and it serves my purpose very well without breaking the bank! Thanks B&H for the great service—as always!

I got this little guy to use on a full frame but was pleasantly surprised to find it works on my aps camera as well (D7200). Seems sharp enough for my needs at this angle of view. It give a nice keyhole affect for video.

This little gem of a lens is everything I expected. Gives you a whole new level of creative photography at a fraction of the price of a Canon lens. Sure, it's not the holy grail of circular fisheye lenses, but for most people, it's more than adequate. Images are sharp and color is great. I purchased mine for only $150, so it was a steal. It's just so much fun. If you can still find one, don't hesitate to get it.

No particular reason to buy this lens. In fact my wife asked if I really needed it! I’ve always been fascinated with fisheye type photos & as I enjoy landscape photography I wanted to see what interesting effects I could get. Tried lying on my back in a wooded area & got some great shots. This lens is a great addition to my kit. Lightweight & easy to use. The focussing ring is smooth & build quality excellent. Very pleased with my purchase.

Entry-level Fisheye, performs great for a first-timer

As someone who's always been intrigued in fisheye photography, I saw this was a daily deal for a steal of a price and was so stoked. Build-wise, the lens is pretty lightweight. The aperture ring turns pretty easily, the focusing/distance ring is INCREDIBLY stiff, to the point where I was unsure where I was supposed to be twisting. It did eventually budge, but does require some elbow grease. The lens came with some residue on the glass in the shape of the lens cap, but it was easily removed with a cloth. The lens performs as expected, on a full-frame slr or mirrorless it shows the complete circle. The amount I could fit in a picture is astounding! There's a lot of light bleeding on the edges of the circle, but not to an unusable extent. I feel that I got what I paid for, this is a wonderful entry-level fisheye lens for someone who's looking to experiment and try something new, without having to go way over budget as an investment.

This lens is optimized for an APS-C sensor, therefore it does not allow for a full image circle.

Is this lens equisolid?

Is this lens equisolid?
Asked by: Philipp
If by that you are asking if it is a rectilinear fisheye or a circular fisheye. I have a 14mm Sigma and a wide zoom for crop sensors which are rectilinear. Even so, there will be noticeable barrel distortion increasing further from the center of the image. This LensBaby lens is a circular fisheye. It is supposedly optimized for crop sensor cameras. It works great on my 7D mkii, with only one caveat: the upper and lower portions of the circular image are a tad cropped. Not much. but obviously cropped nonetheless. If I had to guess, it was designed for crop factor 1.5 (Nikon and Sony) but not quite for the 1.6 of Canon. Using my full-frame 6D, the image is quite uniformly circular and fits almost too well into the larger image frame. I have not yet had time to work much with images from this lens on either camera, but so far, it seems worth the price for a fun, novelty lens, giving images that are at least quite adequate for most needs.

Does this lens have an Ai coupling ridge. In addition, is the aperture scale visible in the viewfinder of a Manual Focus film camera like the Nikon FM2n? It looks like it does but the illustration is not clear.
Asked by: Robert
No, aperture is not visible in view finder.Ai coupling? It fits my nikon fine with nikon mount. There is no connection to body threw sensors.. it locks on and you do everything by hand. You can see shutter speed and iso on back screen or inside view finder

Will this lens capture full circle images while using Speedbooster Ultra 0.71x on a Blackmagic Pocket 4k?
Asked by: Rajesh
No, the sensor size on the Black Magic Pocket 4k even by itself (without the Speedbooster) will not yield a circular image. You will see cropping on the top and bottom on any sensor size besides a full frame sensor.

question

Will this lens produce a full circular image on the MFT sensor?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, this lens will not produce a full circle image. It will produce a circle cropped at the top and bottom. You need about a 4.5mm fisheye lens on a 4/3 sensor to produce a full circle fisheye image.
