    Lensbaby 5.8mm f/3.5 reviews

5.8mm f/3.5 Circular Fisheye Lens for Nikon F is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK for D7000 and above I bought this lens and have a D7200 and a D3200. It is almost impossible to use this leans on a D3000 or D5000 models because of no why to set what aperture you are using and have absolutely no use of light metering. Warning unless you have an external light meter or want to play with take a picture and then adjust setting in manual do not buy this lens. On my D7100 you setup for the use of a nonCPU lens. Once this is done you can use aperture mode and the camera will automatically adjust the speed when you have the correct aperture in the nonCPU lens settings. On the D3000 and D5000 series you must in Manual mode and will have no aperture control or auto adjustment for shutter speed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exactly as advertised on DSLR This Lensbaby fisheye does exactly as advertised: creates a lovely circular image on DSLR cameras. Also tried it on converter on my micro four thirds Olympus E-m5 camera and it crops the image to lose the top and bottom of the circle, but still creates a nice wide image. Lensbaby has a micro four thirds specific fisheye which also crops the top and bottom. It seems that no fisheye at this point, creates a full circle on the 4/3, sadly. Still, I am very happy with the lens on my Nikon. It really is a nice sharp, manual lens at a reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have done this long ago! WONDERFUL lens! The polished interior adds a great 'frame' to most shots and if you don't like it, it can be easily masked in post. The FOV is so great that you really don't have to use the viewfinder. Just point it in the direction of your subject and shoot but be careful, I have often gotten my feet or the brim of my hat in the shot. Architecture, pets, macro, some landscapes, night shots, time exposures, this lens gives a neat twist to anything you shoot. It really challenges your creativity. It's a whole different way of looking at things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have a blast! Great fun to play with and give a different perspective to old views. Use the distortion to advantage, including the reflections on the inner barrel. Since it has 180 degree view, mind getting your feet, elbows, or ball cap bib in the picture -- unless that is what you want! Be prepared to go back to old school photography skills -- manual exposure and focus. A little pricey but great if you can snag a sale price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feels like a toy, performs like a pro Lens is in plastic housing. May be made overseas (doesn't say on the barrel). Focusing ring is eh...smooth but not tight. Then again, Nikkor lenses are made in China these days, and they perform. This lens performs. I have owned a Samyang 8mm. It wasn't circular, so I sold it. I was ready to purchase a Sigma 8mm. But I decided to give this one a try. The pictures you see online don't really do it justice. It's pretty darn sharp. You just have to use LiveView to magnify in and focus. And the flare ring around the image? Don't let the pros scare you off. This is a eccentric look of this lens that is incredibly difficult to produce in photoshop. But removing that flare is a simple two step procedure. 1. Round Lasso select on PS. 2. Invert select 3. Use a fat pencil (pure black) and just fill over the flare parts. For what they are charging, I wished the housing was constructed sturdier and tighter. But then again, considering a Nikon 6mm cost the price of a small country's annual GDP, this isn't bad at all!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My Opinion - This Is Not A Toy Lens Some might expect this to be just a toy lens, but I find it creating interesting effects of everyday objects. This lens is built somewhat well, better than I might expect for a $* lens from Lensbaby. The barrel is metal (with factory created) distortion with a rubber manual focus ring and a plastic ring to set your aperture. The camera mount is plastic. The lens comes with a rubber front cover with a plastic rear cover. There is also a small black pouch included in the box for lens storage. You need to set your camera on Manual Mode to operate this lens. There is no electronic contact for focusing. There is a hyperfocal scale on the lens for you to find your focus range. As an example, if the aperture is set to f/4 and you focus on an object approximately 9 in front of the lens, you can tell that anything from 6 to 1 away form the lens should also be in focus. The examples shown were taken using a Nikon D300 camera, manual mode.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun! Is it the best ever fish eye? No. Is it the easiest to use? No. Are the pictures any good. They are entirely usable, depending on your purposes. One needs to understand the limitations, it is completely manual, the camera body does not even know it is on the camera. This usually requires either a light meter or a number of test shots, and you may wind up using all three adjustments, f/stop, shutter speed and ISO to get what you want. But, to some of us, that is part of the fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Just Plain Fun It is certainly $ worth of fun. I am a professional videographer and I am not sure if I will ever use this lens in my work. But it was certainly worth buying. Everything looks cool when you use a super wide angle fish eye lens, especially your pets. It focuses down to .25 inch. My cat's head take on a new dimension at a quarter inch. But you never know, I may be working one day on a music video and the director is describing a look that he wants to achieve. And that is when I will go into my kit and tell him that I can give him the look he wants.
