VariZoom STEALTHYGO overview

  • 1Description

The black StealthyGo Multi-Use Support & Stabilizer for GoPro/Small Camera from VariZoom combines a monopod and a hand-held stabilizer featuring five modes of operation: stabilizer, 3-point shooter, hand-held, tabletop stand, or monopod. Featuring a water-resistant build and composite construction, it is optimized for GoPros, point-and-shoots, and other small cameras weighting up to 2 lb. for camera attachment, it features a standard 1/4"-20 thread. Cameras, such as the GoPro, which use propriety mounting systems will require a suitable 1/4"-20 adapter (available separately).

Operation Modes

Monopod-Stabilizer
For on-the-move shooting, the monopod section can act as a counter weight for better stability. By extending or lowering the monopod section so that the grip handle is as close as possible to the center of gravity of the whole system, including the camera, hand shake can be reduced for smoother hand-held shooting
3-Point Shooter
In this mode the monopod stock is oriented vertically, allowing you to press it against your chest for better stability than pure hand-held shooting
Hand-Held
Fully collapsed, the StealthyGo can be used as a hand-held shooting rig, or just as a handle to carry your camera around when not in use
Tabletop
In 3-point configuration, the StealthyGo will free-stand on a table top or other flat, level surface. You can also use this mode to capture shots from close to the ground
Monopod
Twists grips on the tube assembly loosen, extending the StealthyGo into a monopod for better stability and reduced fatigue when shooting from a fixed position. Alternatively, the camera can be reversed, effectively converting the StealthyGo into a "selfie" pole

Compatibility

Compact Cameras
With a standard 1/4"20 mounting screw, this stabilizer works with any camera that has a 1/4"-20 socket weighing 2 lb or less
GoPro HERO
For use with the GoPro, a separately available 1/4"-20 to GoPro adapter is required (often included with the camera or housing). The StealthyGo can be used with any GoPro HERO model. These include:
  • HERO
  • HD HERO
  • HERO2
  • HERO3
  • HERO3+
  • HERO4

    VariZoom STEALTHYGO reviews

StealthyGo Multi-Use Support & Stabilizer for GoPro/Small Camera (Black) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average From the Basic User's Guide: Rest Mode: I wouldn't know, my box was factory sealed from VariZoom but the included belt clip was missing. 0 star Camcorder Mode: Comfortable grip, but if you have small hands, the grip may make your hands tired after awhile. 4 star 3-Point Shooter/Tabletop Tripod Mode: Will come in handy and provide steady shooter mode 4 star Monopod Mode: I think it's too short and your arm will certainly get tired after about 5 minutes. You need the extra extension (long monopod) 3 star Downhill Race Mode: No comment Stabilizer Mode: Doesn't work for me, only one axis (pitch). My video still had the shakes. 1 star Selfie Mode: Convenient, probably best use. 4 star Average star: 2.6 3 I'll keep it, but would not recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for GoPro Cant say enough good things about this product. It's compact and useful in so many ways. If you have ever tried filming freehand with a GoPro you know what a pain it is the camera is to small to handle well. You can't press a button much less hold steady because it is so small. The Stealthygo is wonderful in every mode it was demonstrated in the video I watched before buying. Stabilizer, monopod, handheld camcorder mode, tripod mode and self mode. I did not order the longer monopod but I probably will soon. The monopod as it is is great for shooting while sitting and when I am standing I use the 3 point shooting configuration. That is what is so cool about this item is it changes in seconds just like advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a difference I urge anyone that shoots video or wants to shoot video with a point and shoot style camera to get the Stealthygo. The difference in how your camera handles on the Stealthy is remarkable compared to without it. I have never taken a good shake free video before with my little camera because I can never hold it comfortably or well with one hand. But with my Stealthy it is ergonomically sound and with one hand in camcorder mode it is smooth shake free and I don't have that familiar noise of my finger tapping and rubbing near the built in mic. Big difference!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sending mine back... Maybe this might work for a GoPro, but my Sony a6000 with a w/a pancake lens or my Sony HXR 50 - I could probably hand-hold BETTER. The nut on the head won't stay tight either. My expectations were too high on this product. I probably should have bought the highest price model. Varizoom makes great broadcast gear, though....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Review I used this stabilizer recently for the first time. When mounting the GoPro and using it hand held it didn't bring me a level of stability that I expected. When using it sort of like a table tripod it did work well and was much better than hand held. I'm just a bit disappointed and would not recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nifty Tool The stabilizer is a neat tool to improve production values. True, as with your other video production tools, the stabilizer requires that you practice, practice, practice to get the smooth movements and stability that your viewers expect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Awesome!! I use this with my GoPro and Canon powershot.I love that it does so many things and it was only about $*. I have only used a couple times now but I don't think I will ever take picture again without it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Concept, So-So Execution This is a very flexible support system for my GoPro. It supports several configurations, most of which work pretty well. The stabilizer, however, is another story. There is no gimbal on the stabilizer - just a single axis joint. The joint is totally stiff and doesn't allow free motion of the rest of the rig. I found that feature completely unusable. The 3-point configuration works pretty well, but the collar is very smooth and slips when holding it against your shoulder. Having a rubber sleeve on the collar would help with this. For the most part, I used the camcorder mode where the rig is collapsed as a camera grip. This was comfortable to hold, and since the rig isn't very heavy, I had no problem using this configuration all day. One last point - the rig doesn't include a tripod adapter for the GoPro mounting system. You'll need to purchase that separately. Overall, this is a solid product for the price. While I was pretty disappointed with a couple of the configurations, this is still a great tool to have in your gear bag, especially with the form factor of the GoPro.
