Sennheiser HMD26-II Overview

The HMD26-II-600S-X3K1 from Sennheiser is a dynamic closed back professional broadcast headset with a noise-compensating microphone. It can be used to provide speech transmission in noisy outdoor environments for applications such as broadcast TV, outdoor sports, radio stations, and more.

The HMD26-II-600S-X3K1 is built with a hyper-cardioid microphone. It is suitable for either outdoor or studio use. This series offers several improvements over the previous version, which include a better fit, and more comfort with a lengthened two-piece headband for those long production days. Structure-born noise is minimized by mechanical construction of the headset and cables.

Lightweight headphone
Comfortable to wear even for extended listening
ActiveGard (switchable) safeguards you from volume peaks above 105 dB
Flip-away headphone allows single-sided listening
Linear sound reproduction for demanding applications
Flexible microphone boom can be worn on either left or right-hand side
Noise-compensating dynamic microphone ensures professional speech transmission
Single-sided cable is easy to replace
The cables have been reinforced with DuPont Kevlar. For single-sided listening, the angle through which the ear cup can be swiveled backwards has been limited to 45°, offering a more secure fit. The stiffer and partially flexible gooseneck provides stay-put positioning of the mic capsule

A very comfortable headset. Microphone sound is outstanding but required a mic preamp to bring up the level Not sure it is 3 times better than the Audio Technica BPHS1 at a third of the price and does not require a mic preamp.

One word - JUNK!

Poor design, horrible handling noise, mic element freely moves around all over the place. Just junk! If you need pro quality audio, do not buy this product!

Unbearable

I would give these NO stars if it were an option. These are PURE torture. I work in TV and wear a headset 10-16 hours a day. I could not even have these on for 5 minutes. I have owned 5-6 other Sennheiser Headsets all model Sennheiser HMD281-PRO -which I loved except for the fact the mic would give out. I purchased this model because it was touted as very comfortable and the mic boom is exchangeable so when that part breaks you don't have to replace the whole thing. But these are intolerable and unusable. I will have to bite the restocking fee and default back to the more fragile model. Its worth the comfort. Do not buy these.

Hmm not sure why there are bad reviews by a few customers. Either they are consumers or amateurs; this is the gold standard for studio-quality mic and headset. We use it for several productions and perform really well for the price.

lives up to its reputation

amazing professional headset, no surprise that this is the industry standard.

Don't be scared by the reviews.

Based on the reviews alone, I would have passed on this headset. I think the problem is people don't understand this is an ON ear headset and not an OVER ear headset. I work as a lighting designer and sometimes have to wear a headset for 15 hours straight. I was turned on to these after a show caller at an event had them, and her voice sounded amazing over intercom. These sound great in the ears, mic sounds great, and the look really professional too. I love that I can swing the earcup back to make it a single when I need to hear the room. I will agree that since it's an on ear headset it isn't as comfortable as some of the over ears. With that said, they are still way more comfortable than any of the clearcom or telex offerings, and sound SO MUCH BETTER. The noise isolation is really good too. I use these in combination with 15db molded earplugs in arena settings, and the SPL out of the headset is good enough to crank up and hear production, and the mic sounds better than my David Clarks. I love being able to swap the 4 pin cable out for an XLR/TRS cable that I can use for video conferences and remote support applications. I am very happy with this headset.

Great fit and would buy again

I wear this headset for sporting and special events. On my head for 1.5 hours at a time and no discomfort and design is very acceptable. Was worried when I read the other reviews...but as a seasoned professional I have no problem with the design, electronics or connections. Works well when mixing by myself or when controlled by the production trailer.
