Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED V... Overview

Spanning wide-angle to super telephoto, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR from Nikon is an ideal single-lens solution for photographing in a wide variety of situations. Designed for DX-format cameras, this 27-450mm equivalent zoom features an advanced optical design comprising both aspherical and extra-low dispersion glasses, which help to reduce aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range for notable clarity and sharpness. Benefitting the optics is a four stop-effective VR image stabilization system, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake in order to produce sharper handheld imagery. Additionally, a Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.

All-in-one zoom spans wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths and is designed for Nikon F-mount DX-format cameras, where it provides a 27-450mm equivalent range.
Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
Three extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by 4 stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

This lens met my objectives!

I wanted a lighter lens and slightly more compact for travel. This lens not only gave me a wider range of telephoto options with 18mm wide angel and 300mm telephoto but it is lighter weight, shorter and balances well on the camera! I wanted it for travel and can't wait to do that now.

I can't wait to take this lens on some road trips and long hikes this summer It appears to be the do all one lens for what's coming next days I have been looking for. What I've seen so far it's going to be great

Okay walkaround lens

I got this to use with my Z FC. It says 18-300, but shooting side by side with my 50-250 Z lens, this lens produces a slightly smaller, slightly less detailed image. It should be noted that I'm pixel peeping, but I need to as I tend to crop a lot. If you don't, then this lens should be more than sharp enough. But you're clearly not getting the magnification Nikon is claiming, which is also important to me. For most people, and most uses, this lens would be very convenient and perfectly adequate. But for me, it doesn't really replace the 16-50/50-250 combo, which kit lenses though they may be, are excellent.

A word of caution

When I put my new 18-300mm Nikkor lens on my Nikon D850 and looked through the viewfinder, there looked like some horrible vignetting. But I took a couple of test shots and they turned out fine. I recommend using the screen for composing the shot.

Very Happy With Lens Choice

I got this lens to reduce the need to swap lens while shooting. I was concerned that the large focal range would mean softness or lack of performance. However, the lens has performed beautifully in all respects for the type of photography I do (mostly landscape). I also like not carrying as much weight around on hikes like I was with multiple lens.

Ok for outside shooting. Don't even try indoors/low light.

#1 B&H is great. Quick shipping, great service. #2 Was excited to get this lens, so I could get closer shows of bride/groom from way back behind the guests, and to be able to take more candid pics of people without being so close. I would probably give this a 2/5 as far as quality goes for my primary reason for getting it. It does take the occasional great photo as far as quality/bokeh goes, but out of 100 pics, maybe a couple decent ones. I'll keep using it until I can afford something better, but a little disappointed in a $700 lens that doesn't exactly do what I need it to do.

Improved Weight and Telephoto Range

I have replaced my last lens and love this one. It is significantly lighter weight and has an expanded wide angle at 18mm. It is also shorter which makes a better balance for camera and lens for me. I have been very pleased with the sharpness of the photos.

Great zoom lens!

I had been looking for a good zoom lens for my Nikon D5200 to replace my Nikon 55-300mm zoom and my 18-200mm zoom lenses. I'd really become frustrated with changing out lenses for close-up and distant shots. Didn't like carrying an extra lens on hikes and didn't like changing lenses in windy, dusty conditions. This lens fits the bill and does exactly what I hoped it would. Great lens and similar weight of my 55-300mm lens. I also like the lens lock feature. Couldn't be happier with this product and look forward to using it on future photography outings.

Is this lens compatible with the Nikon F-100?
Asked by: Arie
No, it is not. The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Lens is designed for use with Nikon DSLR cameras that use the smaller APS-C digital sensor. The Nikon F-100 35mm Film SLR camera is a film camera that uses full-frame 35mm film. Nikon DX lenses are not compatible for use with Nikon's 35mm film SLR cameras, and should not be used. The smaller imaging circle of the lens would not fully cover the larger 35mm film, and as such, there would be a large, dark circular vignette area on the negative where the smaller imaging circle on the DX lens blocks light from exposing the outer edge of your film. You also do not want to run the chance of damaging either the lens, the internal reflexing mirror, or both when attempting to use a DX lens on the 35mm film SLR camera.

(1). Is Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR to be compatible with D3100 and D750? (2). Any convertor for this lens? which one would you recommend? Is the convertor gonna be compatible with D3100 and D750?
Asked by: Ying
The lens will work with both cameras but the D750 is full frame and the lens is aps-c, you will only get 40% resolution instead of the full frame resolution. I would not recommend a converter on this lens, no autofocus and poor image quality.

Does this lens work with both crop (i.e.: Nikon D5600) and full frame (i.e.: Nikon D780) Nikon cameras?
Asked by: Farhina
This lens works best on DX sensor cameras like the D5600. While it can fit on a D780 with autofocus, the image will crop and you will lose resolution with its use.
