CineStill Film 800T 35mm Overview

CineStill 800Tungsten Xpro C-41 Color Negative Film is reformatted movie stock that has been prepared and packaged for use in still cameras. Utilizing a unique premoval stage, the traditional anti-halation rem-jet layer has been removed from this film, enabling its development in C-41 chemistry as well as the motion picture standard ECN-2 process.

Benefitting from the distinct qualities of a high-speed motion picture stock, this color negative film is balanced for tungsten, incandescent, and fluorescent light and exhibits a nominal sensitivity of ISO 800/30°. If exposing under daylight conditions, an 85B filter is recommended along with exposing the film at ISO 500 for normal results. The high film speed is ideal for working in difficult, lowlight conditions and is also well suited to push processing by up to 3 stops.

This item is one roll of 36-exposure 35mm (135) film.

High-speed, ISO 800/30°, tungsten-balanced movie stock has been packaged and prepared for use in still cameras.
Unique premoval stage eliminates the rem-jet anti-halation layer to make it suitable for C-41 processing. Processing can also be done with ECN-2 chemistry without worrying about the rem-jet layer.
A distinct halation effect produces glowing highlights from strong light sources.
Specifically designed for use in low and difficult lighting conditions.
Emulsion has been optimized for a hybrid workflow and is ideal for scanning.
Film responds well to push processing up to ISO 3200.
Recommended ISO rating and exposure index rating for push processing:

  • ISO 800: No push; EI 200-1600
  • ISO 1250: 1-stop push; EI 800-2000
  • ISO 1600: 2-stop push; EI 1250-3200
  • ISO 3200: 3-stop push; EI 1600-3200 (with increased contrast)

Had so much fun with this roll of 800T. Spent many a night shooting neon and other signage, along with street scenes under street lights. Really happy with the results. I thought it would be harder to use but it really worked great.

I like to use this film in low light situations with artificial light of different colors. The best film for night street photography.

Incredible film, and Cinestill's best color negative film. Night shots with it are incredible. Fantastic colors, great grain structure. Halations give some really interesting effects. This film can also be shot in the daytime if you expose it at ISO 200 with or without an 81B or 85B filter. Really awesome look

You need to think about your lighting and composition a bit more to really get the most out of the halation effect but when it comes together properly, it's magic.

Been wanting to test out some CineStill 800t for a while now and finally pulled the trigger on some.... I have no idea why I haven't tried this film stock sooner!! Shot this at 400 ASA instead of box speed because I wanted to try it during the day and the results speak for themselves. Shots at night were also better than I expected even when pulled one stop. Highly recommend!!!

It is good film.. I doubt there is a problem with that. I have shot many rolls at 800 and it works well.. Nikon F3 metered, Sekonic 208 metered and Leica M7

Yes, the CineStill Film 800Tungsten Xpro C-41 Color Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) listed above is DX-coded film and will automatically set the camera's ISO setting in cameras which read DX-coded film canisters.

This says it's "XPro," is this the same as the 800T sold on CineStill's website? Or is this a different formulation? Is this actual negative film, or is it reversal film that's designed to be cross processed in C-41? Or are they just saying it has a cross processed look to it?
Asked by: Michael
It's a newer version of the original stock. It's actual color negative film to be processed with C-41.

question

hello, I have a canon rebel t2 & 7ne with a automatic film roll. has anyone tested this film with non manual camera's?
Asked by: Jovan
The new cassettes are DX encoded so if that's what you are wondering about then yes, automatic cameras can indeed read what speed and length of the film is.

question

so this is daylight, but you need a filter??????
Asked by: Robert
Cinestill 800 is a tungsten light balanced film, it would be roughly equivalent to a digital white balance around say 3000k. It's perfect for indoors under tungsten lighting however you will need an orange filter (81a or similar) if you want to use this film in daylight or other lighting around 5100k (eg- flash, etc).
