ikan IK-RSR6 Overview

The ikan IK-RSR6 Hi-Hat Riser is an aluminum riser, designed to raise a 75mm ball tripod head approximately 6" above different mounting options. The IK-RSR6 enables mounting a tripod head with a 75mm half ball to a flat surface, allowing you to maintain the leveling capability of the half ball/bowl combination. This riser can be used as a hi-hat, mounted on compatible sliders with a 3/8"-16 mounting stud, and the three unthreaded holes enable using bolts or screws to mount the hi-hat to a variety of surfaces.

It features 4.625" of clearance between the bottom of the built-in leveling ball and the top of the base of the unit. This provides clearance for many of the longer tie-down knuckles in use with many popular 75mm video heads. This hi-hat riser features anodized aluminum construction which provides a balance between strength and weight, and it is well suited for use mounted on a board, slider, or jib.

When mounting to a slider, how much stability is ...

When mounting to a slider, how much stability is lost by raising the head and camera 6"? Am I better off just buying a flat-base head?
Asked by: Isaac
The ikan IK-RSR6 Hi-Hat Riser (6") (B&H# IKIKRSR6) simply raises the point of connection between the slider and the camera by around six inches. First, it should be said that even when not using a hi-hat, most uses of a slider will nevertheless still use a head such as a typical tripod head that is around 2.5-3" (6.35-7.6cm) tall anyway. Yes, raising the head even higher will make the slider more top heavy. However, whether or not that is a problem will depend on many factors and will well be worth it to video shooters wanting to use a half ball to be able to take the shot at a particular angle. If the load capacity of the slider can handle the extra weight then it should still be sufficiently stable, especially when used flat.

Is there a board I can buy that will turn this into a hi-hat? It would need to have a 3/8ths stud in the middle
Asked by: Peter
Ikan does not have a board option for their IK-RSR6 riser. Other solutions with a board are - Proaim Heavy-Duty Cinema Hi-Hat with Octagonal Board (75mm) BH #PRHTBWL7500

What's the weight capacity?
Asked by: Osiris
The manufacturer does not list a weight capacity anywhere. However, the ikan IK-RSR6 will be able to support more weight than any tripod head you fix onto the riser.

question

Would this work with a Benro S8? I'm concerned about the length of the Benro's stem. Also, how can this Riser be connected to a tripod?
Asked by: Thomas
Hi Thomas. Sorry for the delayed response. I use this item to attach a Miller Compass 21 Fluid Head to a very tall Manfrotto 161 Tripod (3 meters in in height). It's enabled a number of difficult shots. I am not acquainted with the Benro products (as such) but I can confirm that this item has worked well for me in the way that I have described.

question

Can you level the ball head with this like regular ball head tripod?
Asked by: Neil
Yes, you can level a ball head just like a tripod. I use a 75mm half ball on this riser, but you can also use a 65mm.

question

Can this be used on a photography tripod like the Manfrotto 190xprob and mount a fluid head? Or should I just buy a video tripod with a fluid head already included instead?
Asked by: Celso G.
Celso, this Riser mounts via a 3/8 mount, so technically, as long as you have a 3/8 system to mount it to, it should work. But typically, most photography tripods are equipped with 1/4-20 mountings points, so the video tripod may be a safer bet.
