Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

The silver, Micro Four Thirds mount Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Lens is a prime wide-angle lens designed specifically for use with Micro Four Thirds sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm and a broad 83° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for architectural, interior, and landscape images. Its fast f/2.0 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, a Nano Coating System (NCS) has been applied to the lens elements in order to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery

    Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 reviews

12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount (Silver) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding lens I bought this lens based on what I had read about Rokinon and the fact that I needed a high quality wide angle lens for my GH4 and couldn't persuade myself to buy the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12mm f/2.0 Lens. This lens has not disappointed and is FAR better than I had expected. The focus ring is super smooth and the image quality is SUPERB. I was also surprised at the focal distance on this thing - you can get so close to your subjects that it acts almost like a macro lens. But what really blew my mind was how amazing the image quality was -- there's no noticeable chromatic aberration or distortion! I've been using this lens for about two weeks and have not been able to notice any major distortion whatsoever, and this lens is $300 less than the Olympus. What a value. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shot a satellite! I had to return my first sample, but B&H’s customer service and return policy cannot be better! The first one had excessive purple fringing and very soft across the field of view. Second copy is far better. I live in a city, so I have light pollution. Still, I went out on my deck on a clear night to shoot some stars to test infinity point. I shot 7 photos and went back in. In Lightroom, I discovered a satellite in two of the shots. It is clearly visible at 100% ! A very pleasant surprise especially considering I was shooting wide open! Highly recommend this lens, but if you get a bad copy, just return it and try again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astrophotography winner Can't rate this lens enough - works stunningly for astro pics, on my GX7 I am able to get stable pictures of 30 sec without too much trailing, at higher ISO's than 200 the light just floods in! ...also amazing at scenery shots during the day at around f4

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Worth the money Well worth the money. I use this on my GH4, even in 4K crop it is wide and does not distort the image at all. It is sharp wide open and stopped down to F22 everything is in focus from about 2 feet to infinity. If you are worried that it's a manual lens only don't be, it focuses very easily a pleasure to use. I can now use my GH4 in sunlight follow the action without worrying about focus because of the wide depth of field. I can walk with my camera now where before even with a 20mm lens I would have to stay in one spot or be on sticks do to focus concerns and camera shake. If you need a wide lens is a great one to get.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good fit for my Panasonic GH3 This lens seems to work well on my Panasonic GH3. I put it in Aperture (A) priority and control the aperture with the lens ring, while the camera adjusts the shutter accordingly. Focus is, of course, manual. Huge field of view, as one would expect, without much fish-eye effect, and whatever distortion there is can be cleaned up in Lightroom. Not quite 5 stars, because all the mechanical stuff - lens rings, camera mount thread, , lens cap fitting, etc. feel less smooth than the Panasonic lenses. Here's a tip for those with similar cameras: The GH3 wouldn't take a photo until I used the Custom menu to enable Shoot without a lens. Apparently the camera thinks there's no lens in place, since this manual lens has no electrical connections between the body and the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very wide, very sharp, very fast. What more do you want... I mounted this lens on my m43 Olympus. Mainly as a landscape lens and possibly in my underwater housing for wide angle. I either select aperture priority and only fuss with the f-stop and focus or manual mode and adjust shutter speed as well. It is a complete pleasure to use something this good that is exactly what it claims to be. Wide, sharp and fast. Built like a tank. Because it is a manual lens there is no lens data going to the camera. No autofocus, no auto aperture, no in camera lens distortion corrections. On the Olympus I enable focus assist. Magnify set to 7x and Peaking to Yellow to help get focus. On the 2x crop sensor you get corner to corner sharp at f2 with a pleasant blurred background. At f8 everything is in focus and sharp. Did I say this lens is sharp on the m43 sensors? f16 is useable but beyond that...nope. There are other 12mm f2 lenses out there for the m43 systems but the price of this beauty is so good I really couldn't justify paying twice as much. I've also tried a few legacy manual lenses. I enjoy using them especially for video but the image quality is just not on par. One caveat. My first instinct as with all of my lenses was to attach a protective uv filter. Taking a close look at the bulbous front element I believe a screw on filter would contact the front element if screwed down far enough. I hope this is helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Who needs a kit zoom? I bought this lens for my Olympus OM-D E-M10, primarily for Astrophotos. I was initially very pleased, even more so when I finally worked out how to use focus peaking and focus Magnify (up to 7X). The trick is to assign them to F1 and F2 buttons -page 99-100 in my manual. I do not miss auto focus at all. Because it is such a wide angle lens if I set it at Hyperfocal distance of 1.7 metre, everything from 0.88m to infinity is in focus (f5.6). Because the focus ring is good and firm once set it stays that way. Likewise I do not miss zooming. Zooms are always a compromise and I much prefer Prime lenses. A little bit of cropping is equivalent to a kit zoom without serious loss of image quality. My main complaints at the moment is that DX0 and Lightroom do not have presets for it yet however it is no big deal to create your own to remove a bit of vignetting etc. All in all agreat bit of kit at a very good price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Optic I haven't seen any on-line test results, so I'll give a quick summary of my observations. Shooting wide open on my GX7 in the late afternoon of a high dynamic range backlit subject, I achieved very high quality results: -Moderate but observable corner light falloff -Low flare and good contrast -Sharp with a bit of softness in one corner -Slightly slower than f/2 (more like f/2.2) -Minimal distortion -Accurate scale focusing For landscape photography at f/5.6, it's a touch better than the Panasonic 7-14mm at 12mm, but it's an almost undetectable difference. They're both very sharp and have excellent color output. As the M4/3rds format makes the DOF equivalent to f/4 at 24mm, I'd say it's a terrific street photo lens despite the lack of AF (use zone focus)and its yielding high image quality. Actually, good for any low light situation. Construction is very good with a solid feel and nice finish. The hood provided slips on and off nicely. Overall, a great fast optic addition to my kit.
