Polsen VM-150 Overview

The Polsen VM-150 DSLR-Video Microphone is a sleek and compact directional condenser microphone that is designed to deliver professional-sounding audio to a DSLR, video camera, or audio recorder.

Unlike omnidirectional microphones built into most cameras, the VM-150’s supercardioid polar pattern and shotgun design offer great clarity and focus when recording voices or dialog. The VM-150 is optimized to focus on the sound directly in front of it while rejecting off-axis sound, making it an ideal microphone for anyone recording speech or dialog in noisy environments. Other features like adjustable gain sensitivity and a high-pass filter further ensure clear and natural sound with minimal background noise or rumble.

The compact and lightweight design assures that the VM-150 will never weigh down your rig or extend out into the picture frame. And with an integrated shockmount and included shoe mount adapter, the VM-150 is ideal for professionals recording in the field or in a studio, but it will also enhance home video recordings.

question

Can it be used with an iPhone? To record quality sound.
Asked by: Anonymous
The Polsen VM-150 shotgun mic may be used into an iPhone by integrating a Rode SC4 adapter. The best use for a shotgun mic is for capturing dialogue, distances varying between 2-10 feet. The quality of the audio is heavily determined on proximity and background noise as well.

question

Does this Polsen mic require plug-in power from the camera? (some mics require power beyond the battery)
Asked by: Daryl P.
I wouldn't be the right person to ask because I returned this product. I couldn't get it to work.

question

Is this mic compatible with a Canon EOS Rebel?
Asked by: Laura W.
I am looking to replace an older microphone that does not currently work with my Canon T2i or the newer SL1. After researching this, it looks like the DSLR needs to have plug-in power , kind of like phantom power, on a smaller level...neither of which can be found on my two Canons cameras. So does anyone know if this Polsen requires any type of power from the camera beyond the battery?

question

How does the Polsen VM-150 compare, both in sound-quality and in directional (off-axis rejection) performance, with the Polsen VM-180M? Is one better at longer distances than the other? Why might I prefer one versus the other?
Asked by: Anonymous
The VM-180 is the more directional of the two mics. These are short shotgun microphones and are not very effective at distances one would consider long . These work best at distances less than 18 (4'-10') is optimal indoors and even shorter distances outdoors. Performance will also depend upon the ambient noise levels and the loudness of the source being recorded.

question

Although this VM-150 mic has a stereo cable, is it a true stereo mic or does it output a mono signal to both channels?
Asked by: Anonymous
It is a true stereo microphone. When you edit, if you have audio meters that you can see on your screen, the volume levels will be different, according to the level being recorded on each side of the microphone, but most of the sound is two channel towards the front of the mic, to cut out side noise. This gives you most of the sound coming from your target source. this is a real help to us. You will still be able to see differences in each channel on the audio meters of your editing program.

question

Is it compatible with HF S100 Canon HD camcorder?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Polsen VM-150 DSLR/Video Microphone is compatible with the Canon Vixia Camcorders. It will connect to the 3.5mm mic input of your camera. It will require a bracket to mount the mic due to the lack of a cold shoe on your camera. The Vello CB510 is a popular choice. http://bhpho.to/18xGmNT
