Tascam CD-RW901MKII overview

  • 1Description

The CD-RW901MKII from Tascam is a professional CD recorder that uses a high-performance AKM audio codec and features gapless recording, analog and digital inputs and more.

The recorder uses the AKM AK4528VM codec which features 24-bit AD/DA conversion for clean, clear sound quality with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz +/-0.8dB. This high-performance codec captures audio with a wide dynamic range for optimal CD recording.

The CD-RW901MKII also features balanced analog XLR inputs and outputs for use with pro audio equipment such as analog consoles and summing mixers. AES/EBU connectivity is also included for use with digital mixers and processors.

The recorder is also capable of displaying the ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) during mastering and can check the data on a master disk after mastering. The ISRC is an international standard code used for identifying specific sound recordings.

    Tascam CD-RW901MKII reviews

CD-RW901MKII Professional CD Recorder is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better if it had decent analog controls and manual! The owners manual is one of the worst I've ever seen. One example: it says you can move the track start point +/-125 frames, but doesn't say what duration each frame is. Duh! The wired remote control is good and bad. Good--no batteries, no aiming. Bad--the wire. Overall the good outweighs the bad. I love that you can tell it to record 1 track, 99 tracks, or anything in between. Makes it easier to create compilations. Unfortunately, it only works when you tell it to, and it's easy to forget. Good thing blanks are cheap... I hate that the analog volume controls seem to be an afterthought, with literally 3/8 diameter knobs with nearly invisible indicator lines. While the owners manual says they are concentric, it lies. There are 2 separate knobs. Good luck trying to get the balance right when recording your LPs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CD-RW901MKII Professional CD Recorder by Tascam I have been using the CD-RW901SL's for some time. I purchased a CD-RW901MKII Professional to replace a CD-RW901SL. Both are great machines. Slot loading was quite common in professional gear, for various reasons. I do like the tray loading system utilized within the CD-RW901MKII. The signal output from the CD-RW901MKII appears to be a little higher, as I have had to reduce input gains on my mixing console for some source material. I have not found anything else on the market with similar features and capabilities. If you are looking for a quality device with recoding and playback capabilities, the CD-RW901MKII is worth your consideration. Additionally, there are not many solutions with a pitch control feature. Even if you are just looking for quality machine for playback only, this machine is truly worth your consideration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding We record live through with Sennheiser MD431s and 965s through an Allen & Heath GLD 80. With one minor exception the Tascam performs up to our standards. Hat exception is one I have noted on several Tascam's but they have a built in remedy or it. The problem is that with L/R balance set in the middle the left channel records significantly higher. The solution is to adjust the balance control heavily towards the right channel. Since this has not occurred with other recorders with this board and since every Tascam I have used has this issue I am confident that the problem is in the Tascam itself. The sound quality once the balance is properly set is quite decent for CD. We use this to record ourselves for self improvement, for demos when marketing to new churches and for giving copies of the sermons to people who ask for it. With these purposes in mind it is perfect for us. B&H, as always, provided exemplary service and speedy delivery.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from CD Tray warped after less than 2 years This product started to fail occasionally after 1.5 years. It then would allow you to burn a disc then when it came to finalize the disc would not. Upon further inspection we noticed the CD tray was warped. We have had another version of this unit same company and that one also failed after a couple years. Do not expect this unit lasting more than 2 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If I need another one, I know where to get it --B&H My husband is now exploring his new machine. He is quite happy with the quality and clarity of the new digital settings for input, as it has made our older CDs sound so much better. He is still reviewing some of the new features.
