Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Card Reader My original built-in card reader never read CF properly and lately the other sockets had started giving me problems. At the price point this unit was a great buy. It came very completely equipped, though my problem was that the motherboard I had while it had two USB 3.0 Type A sockets didn't have the now standard header on the MB. A couple short Type A to Type B cables solved this problem. The unit mechanically installed easily, and when plugged in started operating immediately (Windows 10). Thus far it has handled every card type I have tried, and the built-in front panel USB 3.0 socket is a bonus. Great unit at a great price, thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from *PRO's READ THIS* I have used the portableHoodman RAW STEEL Card Reader USB 3.0 for many years. I built a new i7 6700k workstation and wanted to include an internal card reader with same speed/reliability as the Hoodman. With Windows 10 pro I am getting solid and consistentspeeds of 148Mbps! That being said, here is what to expect. 1. Installation was a breeze. (I purchased with theStarTech 3.5 to 5.25 Front Bay Bracket Adapter) 2. Well constructed and CF cards insert easily without fear of bending pins. 3. worked out of the box with no software needed, and looks great in my tower :-) 4. The double USBcable is rigid and very well built. (You will need a USB 3 20 pin header on your board or like in my case, I purchased a Vantec 4-Port SuperSpeed USB 3.0 PCIe Host Card w/ Internal 20-Pin Connector). You will need one 4 pin Molex power connectorfor power for most add-incards. I use this reader for my Canon 5Ds r's CF and SD cards. My CF cards are 64gb SandiskExtreme Pro UDMA7 160mbps. My SD cards are rated at 95 Mbps, and I am getting speeds of 90mbps! Bottom line... Don't waste time and money experimenting with cheap, untested readers. I believe you will be very pleased with the quality and speed of this unit. Very happy with this purchase from BHPhoto (as usual:) Hope this helps someone...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable and it works perfectly thus far. 1 month with this reader, so far so good. I've had a lot of issues with internal card readers in the past. When I purchased this card reader, I also ordered 2x USB 3.0 Type-A to Type-B cables to replace the cable that comes with it (the cable that comes with it plugs directly into the motherboard). Then I routed it out the back of my computer and into two USB 3.0 slots in the back. If you don't have any front side USB ports, you probably won't need or want to do that. I didn't want to use the internal port on the motherboard because it's currently being used for USB 3.0 ports on the front of the machine. I'm getting anywhere from 50mbps to 120mbps (Just depends on the media cards speed capability). 5 stars! Never go too cheap on these Internal readers. The cheapest readers break and or have poor manufacturing; leading to slower speeds.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An Mediocre Reader I bought this as a replacement for a cheap @ internal card reader I have owned for a while. I wanted something faster and this promised to fit the bill. Unfortunately, that was not the case.First off...Let me say that this unit seems physically well built. This is the first card reader where the Compact Flash cards slide in and out extremely well and I never get the feeling that the pins are in any danger of being bent. (A nice plus.)However...The performance just isn't there. It attains speeds comparable to the old USB2 reader I have. The most I can get out of this reader is about 20-25 MB/s. But, when I try to read the same media cards in my Transcend or Lexar USB3 readers (ironically through this units USB3 port) I can sustain about 120 MB/s.I hope the speed problem is just a firmware issue. If it gets corrected then this will probably be the best card reader out there. Unfortunately, because of the speed issue, it's mediocre at best.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well but... This is a good card reader with a poorly designed CF slot. Its fast responsive and generally good quality... but the CF slot is adequate at best. The design is a little awkward with an opening that is larger than the CF card. Because its a good deal larger, it requiring a lot of fiddling to seat the card correctly. It also has an odd trapdoor that requires an additional push to seat the card on top of the basic push. Again, very odd... But its fast and works well once you get everything seated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Only Card Reader I Would Use I had the USB 2 version of this card reader which I used for years without any issues. When I upgraded my motherboard I wanted a faster USB 3 version so I purchased this and have been completely satisfied. There are cheaper units but these seem to be the most reliable. As usual, the service received from B&H was quick and efficient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PRO-37U 3.5 USB 3.0 Internal Reader/Wri The installation was straight forward and the drivers were downloaded from the internet. I used an additional USB EI control card for the USB5 speed. Both as a combination worked with not errors. Tested the memory card slots and again functioned properly. I used this for pictures downloaded from the cards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from woth the extra expense Primarily use my reader for CF and SD cards. Nicely constructed, will not bend prongs on CF cards. Nice finish, matches my brushed aluminum case. Windows 8.1, 64bit, drivers worded perfectly, no need for 3rd party drivers. Very fast reading of my USB flash device also.
