LED Science LE LS-S6-PBH overview

  • 1Description

The Q-08 Professional Ball and Socket Head from Sinno provides the photographer with pan and tilt controls so that they can quickly and accurately position their camera. Although compact, this head is capable of handling a camera and lens combination weighing up to 25 lb and features an Arca-Swiss compatible quick release, and a quick release safety lock. A large knob is provided to lock the ball head, independently of the panning tension which can be regulated with its own thumbscrew. The ball head also has a degree calibrated base. The head mount is a standard 3/8"-16 thread with a 1/4"-20 adapter, if needed. There are 2 spirit levels, one on either side of the top plate to aid in proper alignment. A fourth knob is used to disengage the quick-release top plate which has 4 rubber anti-slip pads.

    LED Science LE LS-S6-PBH reviews

Q-08 Professional Ball and Socket Head is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good at first, then some disappointments I used this head for the better part of a year and was generally very happy with it. On it's surface it seems well designed and functional. However, when I tightened the head onto the tripod I must have tightened the tension knob for the base too tightly. When I would loosen it and pan, it would snag inside. The metal inside appears to be soft and bent inward, causing the snagging on the interior panning tension bolt. The head then became wobbly. For general light use it did a good job but I have moved on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value 25lbs rated ball head B&H has exclusive distribution of the LED Science Arca type clamp release ball head. It is a great value at $. I don't doubt it can carry a full 25 lbs due to the short & thick neck between plate and ball. Giottos/Oben/Manfrotto heads have long thin awkward looking necks and cost $-$ more. Horizontal panning is very smooth by loosening the bottom most knob. There are 2 lock knobs for the ball head. I don't know the minute difference between locking vs tensioning between the 2 knobs as there is no accompanying documentation. The Arca clamp knob takes 3 full turns to fully loosen/tighten to remove/lock the mounting plate, which is about 1.5 turns too much in my opinion. The mount plate is longer than it is wide, which allows using Arca lens foots on long telephoto lenses with this ball head. I wish the mounting plate twist lever was substantially thicker & recessed that stows away. The twist lever just dangles under the mounting plate. This is my only gripe. I have used this ball head at 90 degrees on a monopod for my 200mm lens and it seems more stable than fully upright which is more tippy. On a Tripod the head doesn't get in the way as traditional tripod head handles allowing the tripod can be carried in a tripod bag or hung from camera case tripod holders. For the price & performance this is worthy of 4.75 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good, solid ball head While I haven't had the chance to use it very much, it easily holds my heaviest camera and lenses, which tops out at about 7lbs. total. I wanted a ball head that had separate controls for locking the ball and panning. It does both and also has a tension adjustment for the ball which you adjust for the weight of the mounted camera and lens. This will allow you to loosen the main lock and not have your camera flop over suddenly. This is basically the only adjustment you will have to make when you make a substantial change to the mounted weight. You do this before you engage the main lock. Build quality seems to be top notch. The Arca-Swiss type quick release plate holds well without having to tighten the locking knob with excessive force. All in all, a great deal at the discounted price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LED Science Q-08 Ball Head. (LS-S6-PBH) I purchased this ball head to mount on an Induro #CT-213 carbon fiber tripod; to be used with a Panasonic LUMIX #FZ200 point & shoot DSLR camera. This is my all around general purpose setup when I want to go light when out Birding. (An Induro #CLT-103 or #104 tripod would be even lighter. But, I wanted the rigidity of a Two Series tripod to make it more stable when zoomed out to 600mm.) This rather small ball head has worked out very well. It is an exceptional buy at it's present price! It seems to be well made, has nice tension control, and is smooth in it's operation. For this Med.small, lightweight LUMIX camera; it seem's to be a perfect match! I was very much surprised at the quality of this ball head for the price paid! I wanted an inexpensive, small & lightweight ball head, of decent quality to use with the LUMIX camera. The quality of this ball head turned out to be much more then expected! For any small, lightweight camera use: this is an excellent, top value buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very smooth I use this on a manfrotto monopod. It is very smooth in operation and makes it possible to go from Long lens mount to camera body without changing fixtures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice, quality head that upgraded my tripod! I used this ballhead to upgrade a tripod/monopod system that was good except for the head. After replacing the head with this one, I now have a system that is high quality. The knobs have a good feel to them, the ball is metal, and the parts all have a quality feel to them. I like the degree markings for doing panarama and stop-motion shots, etc., and overall it has transformed my tripod into one that would have cost hundreds of dollars more than what I paid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from replacement head I wanted a arca swiss head to use for my tamron 70-200. the knobs are a bit smaller than my previous head and i have large fingers so i'm not liking that. but it has held my camera and lenses well. seems solid so far. only used it for short 2 or 3 second exposures and seems solid. i might update after i try and shoot some stars this summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Ball Head! The Q-08 Ball and Socket Head works perfectly with my Canon 60D and lenses up to 200mm. It would probably hold a larger lense but 200mm is the largest lense I have to this point. I use the Q-08 with an Ioptron camera tracker and Canon 60D for nightscapes and astrophotography. I would highly recommend this ball head.
