Glyph Technologies SR4000 overview

  • 1Description

Designed with the ability to edit and playback multiple audio and HD video streams, the StudioRAID 4TB 2-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Array (2 x 2TB) from Glyph Technologies is a production-grade external RAID array that connects to your host system using its one micro-USB 3.0 port, two FireWire 800 ports, or one eSATA port at speeds up to 360 MB/s. The StudioRAID is equipped with two 3.5" drive bays and a total capacity of 4TB, which is configured as 2 x 2TB 7200 rpm hard drives. To help facilitate its functionality within a production environment, the StudioRAID comes pre-configured as a RAID 0, which helps enhance performance by spreading data across two drives and is also compatible with RAID 1, which offers data redundancy. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD and SPAN are also supported. This array is powered by an internal international auto-switching power supply that operates at 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, is cooled with an intelligent quiet fan, uses disk health monitoring, and is constructed from a scratch-resistant black powder-coated aluminum chassis with a brushed stainless steel face plate. While the StudioRAID comes pre-formatted for HFS+ Journaled for Mac, it may also be used with Windows, Linux, Unix, and BSD after a simple reformat. Included is a micro-USB 3.0 cable, a FireWire 800 cable, and a power cable. It is protected by hardware, data recovery, and advance replacement warranties.

General Features

Achieve Speeds up to 360 MB/s
The StudioRAID is a reliable hardware RAID array with USB 3.0, FireWire 800, and eSATA connectivity, supporting RAID 0, 1, JBOD, and SPAN modes. A temperature-controlled intelligent fan complements its auto-sensing power supply for a combination of speed and reliability
RAID 0 and RAID 1
RAID 0 (striping) increases the performance of the drive system by spreading the data across two drives. RAID 0 is designed for editing video, working with huge graphics files, sound libraries, and streaming instruments that play hundreds of samples simultaneously. RAID 0 is the default shipping drive mode.

RAID 1 offers data redundancy and real-time backup by writing the same data to the two hard drives at the same time. Should a drive failure happen, data is still available on the remaining drive
Time Machine Compatible
The Glyph StudioRAID comes pre-formatted as HFS+ with Journaling and is Time Machine compatible out of the box. A simple reformat is all it takes for the StudioRAID to work with Windows systems
Smart, Quiet, & Efficient Cooling
The StudioRAID uses a temperature-controlled fan that helps keep it quiet while still offering proper cooling. The case is designed with front-panel ventilation holes to draw cool air in, while exhausting warm air out the back
Universal & Auto-Sensing Internal Power
External power adapters are easily misplaced, accidentally unplugged, and take up valuable outlet space. The StudioRAID uses an industry-standard power cord and a pro-quality internal power supply for efficient and reliable power. The StudioRAID will also sense when you connect over USB or FireWire, and automatically power on
Disk Health Monitoring
The StudioRAID includes disk monitoring features designed to keep your data safe. Should your drive begin to exhibit behavior indicating an imminent drive failure, the multi-function LED will alert you via a red light. Additionally, to safeguard against accidentally powering off your StudioRAID, the intelligent power switch must be held for 3 seconds to power off the drive
Rackmount Kit Available
The GPT Rackmount Kit transforms your StudioRAID into a rackmount hard drive. The rackmount kit accessory is capable of mounting one or two Studio-series drives

    Glyph Technologies SR4000 reviews

    StudioRAID 4TB 2-Bay USB 3.1 Gen 1 RAID Array (2 x 2TB) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy I rarely write reviews, and even rarer negative reviews. Received a unit that just did not work in Raid1 mode (the gentleman from Glyph was very kind and tried hard but he reached the conclusion that it needs to be exchanged). Now, after two weeks, I received the second unit. The symptoms are exactly the same: it is not readable (or erasable) in Raid1 mode. I have a MacBook Pro and followed exactly the instructions, as well as the instructions provided by Glyph's support over the telephone. This unit is simply a waste of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable and rock sold I've been using these since forever - what makes it even better is B&H getting it to me within 24 hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Well, so far so good. I used it in raid mode and it took a long time to "time machine" a 2010 macbook pro with about 700 Gigs. Like 10 hours. No complaints, just saying'. We'll see if it lasts 5 years. In a morbid way, I am looking forward to a HD failing, plugging in a new one, and seeing if the raid re-builds the new HD. Oh, by the way, online transaction and delivery exceptionally good. CD in BC, Canada

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lots of problems including it erased my hard drive I was told by the sales person Dave that all I had to do was plug it in. Not true. Has to be reformatted for Windows. As a result it reformatted my hard drive and erased everything. I am now trying to get back all of my info. 1 T at a substantial cost. If you have Windows don't get this Studio Raid. I will be sending the bill to B&H and if they don't pay I will take them to small claims court.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great customer service I needed a large hard drive in a rush. As it was being ordered through a corporate account and there were various layers of people involved in purchasing it became a little complicated. Our B&H rep was able to help me cut through the red tape and got the item available for pickup in the store very quickly. He was friendly and professional through the whole process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far So Good I purchased this drive as a back-up drive for my video editing computer. Although I do not have alot of files on it yet, it has so far run perfectly and is very fast. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone. What's not so great about it ? Nothing that I have noticed.....
