Allen & Heath Xone:23C overview

  • 1Description

The Allen & Heath XONE:23C - DJ Mixer + Internal Soundcard is designed for professional and home DJ applications such as at a party or in the club. The mixer features an internal 4 stereo channel 96 kHz 24-bit USB sound card, an enhanced version of Allen and Heath's Xone voltage controlled filter system with resonance control, a 3-band total kill EQ per side, VCA faders, illuminated switches, styling from the flagship DB4 DJ mixer, and a user upgradeable crossfader with curve selector.

For I/O, the mixer includes two pairs of RCA line inputs and two pairs of RCA phono inputs. Though the mixer has two faders, each of the four inputs has an independent level control to enable playing up to four simultaneous sources in the mix. It also features dedicated stereo send and return channels for integrating external effects units. The front panel of the unit includes a balanced XLR input for connecting a microphone with level, high frequency, and low frequency equalizer controls.

The master outputs are on balanced XLR connectors and the mixer includes a dedicated stereo booth output, as well as a dedicated stereo record out for capturing your mixes to a portable recorder. An 1/8" and a 1/4" headphone connector enable cueing with a wide variety of DJ headphones.

For control, the front panel of the mixer features gain knobs for all four channels. The four inputs are slit into left and right sides, each with a 9-segment LED light meter, separate high, mid, and low frequency total kill EQ knobs, a VCA channel fader, illuminated cue button, and an illuminated button to engage the filter on that side. The center section includes an illuminated button for engaging the external effects send/return, an illuminated button for engaging a high pass filter, an illuminated button for engaging the low pass filter, a frequency selector knob for the filter, and a VCA resonance control knob from mild to wild.

The crossfader features a switchable curve for mixing or scratching. As an option, the user can replace the stock crossfader with Allen and Heath's high end Innofader for enhanced performance (sold separately).

    Allen & Heath Xone:23C reviews

XONE:23C - DJ Mixer + Internal Soundcard is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from strong competitor I DJ with Ableton and have wanted to upgrade to a traditional DJ mixer for a long time. After using a standalone sound card, this unit has INCREDIBLE sound quality. It's punchy and warm, and the EQ full kills are very useful. I haven't had to turn the master gain knob past 5 and it is really, really loud. Waiting to bring this to a club and let it loose. The filter effect is awesome, but I find myself only using it at full resonance or wild, while mild cuts frequencies about the same as the EQs. All of the knobs and faders are solid and very grippy. To DJ traditionally with the mixer through Ableton, you must route your Ableton tracks through the 23c's 1/2 or 3/4 external outputs. You can only cue through the mixer this way, because if you route your tracks to Ableton's Master channel, you won't get full functionality of the unit. Some downsides are: -the input volume knobs do not control the digital input channels on the sound card, so you need to control input volume through your DAW or DJ software. (I have an APC40 and use its faders) -A&H are wrong to advertise 4 stereo inputs/outputs through the sound card. They are 4 mono that can be 2 channels of stereo (1/2 and 3/4), and who even uses mono signals when DJing?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NO BETTER MIXER FOR THE MONEY PRO's -Great Look and Feel-Great Sound-Total Kill EQ is actually total kill mid, high's and lows-Effects are awesome and gain for each input is a nice touch.-Under$ GREAT PRICE for the qualityCON's-Crossfader a bit soft-would like input/ phono switch-not sure i get the modifications options but I use it for vinyl. I also want to say that the good people of B&H were so helpful and professional. Honestly, I will be calling them again for my needs, the service was top quality!
