Hoodman HCD7 overview

  • 1Description

The HCD7 Hood for Convergent Design Odyssey 7 & 7Q from Hoodman provides glare protection when shooting outdoors with your Odyssey 7 or 7Q monitor/recorder. It features a rugged nylon with plastic insert construction that allows the hood to fold down flat for easy storage. Adjustable elastic mounting straps reach around the back of the Odyssey 7 or 7Q and accommodate all sizes of on-board battery options. The bottom panel of the hood is made of elastic, allowing it to stretch so you can use the monitor's touch panel without removing the hood. For protection from the elements, a rain cape is included which mounts to the back of the hood.

    Hoodman HCD7 reviews

    HCD7 Hood for Convergent Design Odyssey 7 & 7Q is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits like a glove almost The HCD7 Hood for the Convergent Design Odyssey 7 & 7Q by Hoodman is well made and fits quite well. The only downside is that the straps that hold it in place are a bit too long. I prefer the straps over velcro, I'm about sick of velcro. The straps can get in the way of the lens or tangled to cables for that matter depending how you use it or mount it. The hood does fit squarely to the Odyssey, it's a nice snug fit. There's a slit on the bottom of the hood, the floor of the hood really that is handy for sneaking your fingers in to the touch screen. Thats a nice touch. It also comes with a clear rain cover that I have not used. It's worth the money, Hoodman always makes a good product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Design. Not up to Hoodman Standards This looks like it was designed for another 7 monitor. The straps are way too long, they cover the SSD slots. The convenent finger flaps are not needed, infact, they get in the way. There is a large gap between the 2 finger breaks. Overall this product is too exspensive for what it is.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poorly designed. No great way to attach. The hood itself works just fine but it was clearly rushed to market. The way the hood attaches to the 7Q is with two elastic straps, one of which either covers the power input or sits half off to the side. I wouldn't take issue with that but this hood was designed for the 7q...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Waste Your Time Or Money I bought this for the Odyssey 7Q+ and what a joke...everything about it's design makes me feel like it was intended for a different device. It doesn't even fit on the 7Q+ properly. It's too small with the menu bars along the top and bottom being obscured by the hood. It should sit on the outside perimeter, not float over the menu areas. The straps that hold it on go right over each SSD card pull tab. Really? The bottom most part of the hood had a split piece fabric that you're supposed to put your hand thru to access the menus along the bottom of the screen. Totally useless design. I returned it and got store credit which I will put toward a different three sided version made of a rubber material. Stay far away from this Hoodman one for sure!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to do... The other reviews made me worry, but I like it. The straps do indeed go over the SSD handles, but not with enough force that I'm worried about it. Stays on the monitor. Collapses nicely into a camera bag. Much simpler, easier than the PortaBrace alternative (which I also own, but like more as protection than as a hood).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Flimsy Some reviewers here complain that the hood doesn't fit their Odyssey 7Q+. No surprise there, the description for this product never says it's designed for the 7Q+, but for the 7 and 7Q. What the description doesn't tell you is that the elastic straps are flimsy and will break after only a couple uses. Unfortunately, this product appears to be the only 4 sided sun hood for the Odyssey on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy and you'll want something like this for outdoors You'll need this or something similar if you go outside. I'd recommend getting this one as the price isn't too bad and it can fold in itself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly Designed. Broke within 2 days Doesn't fit well. The straps that attaches it to the monitor broke on my second shoot.
