    Rycote 041130 reviews

041130 Portable Recorder Suspension HD is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little disappointed Good idea, but I was a little disappointed in this product. The suspension seemed a little stiff for me, at least for my Zoom H4n. It transmitted quite a bit of handling noise; I'd hazard to say just as much or not more than carefully holding the H4n directly by the soft rubbe router edges. Decided to keep it for us on light stands though, but handheld performance was disappointing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The only game in town, unfortunately. I REALLY wish there was something else availble for shock-mounting my Zoom H6 on, but this appears to be the only product of its kind (Well, this and another apparently identical product also by Rycote). So, I mean... it works. But I mean it's hard to conceive of a product constructed to meet a lower minimum bar for barely doing this particular job. The quality of the materials is aggravatingly poor. I mean REALLY REALLY POOR quality materials. The knobs are so cheap and flimsy, it's a little scary tightening them enough to hold the thing in place - and you DO have to tighten them really firmly to hold it in place. So every time you tighten the knobs, it feels like the plastic is about to snap and render the whole thing useless. It's also kind of difficult to squeeze my not especially large fingers in underneath the platform to turn the metal screw to fasten it to my recorder. It's awkward. I'm begrudgingly glad to have it, as it does reduce a decent amount of handling noise. But I've already begun searching for EITHER stronger knobs to replace these with OR some entirely different product that is manufactured with higher quality materials. For what you get with this thing, the price is exorbitant, and as far as I can tell, still probably - BARELY - worth getting. Do-it-yourselfers, take note: If you're even CONSIDERING making your own suspension system for your portable audio recorder... I say go for it. Make your own. It can't be any flimsier or make-shift feeling than this. Microphone shock-mount manufacturers, are you listening..? Easy money to be made here by making ANYTHING to compete with this thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but worth it. I've used the imitation ones and they can't compare to the real thing. This had better suspension and noise isolation. The build quality was excellent. My only complaint and your milage might very; is that it doesn't have an easy to balance the weight or tighten the angle screw without a tool. It is very important to get the recorder balanced so that it sits properly on the mount. Once I got it it stayed put. I got less handling noise in my recording with this than I did with the imitation one. An expensive investment but if you have to mount a recorder with internal mics this thing will do the trick. My setup was a 7D mk II, Roland r26, this suspension device, movo - 35db cable, on a mono pod. I was recording my son's districts music concert.
