This kit can be especially effective in certain ENG situations because it contains dedicated microphones for both interviewer and interviewee. The kit includes the Tascam DR-100mkII portable recorder, AT8004L handheld microphone, SM93 lavalier microphone, a 2.25" square microphone flag, SMH-500 professional studio headphones, and a 6' Studio Elite 4000 Series mic cable.
Tascam DR-100mkII - Portable 2-Channel Linear PCM Recorder
The DR-100mkII from Tascam is portable stereo digital audio recorder designed with high-end recording features aimed at musicians and engineers. Four built-in microphones, two cardioid and two omnidirectional, deliver great sound via the high-gain and low-noise microphone preamps. A pair of XLR inputs can accommodate external microphones and provide switchable phantom power for use with condenser microphones.
The 24-bit/96kHz linear PCM recorder features dedicated stereo mini balanced line in and out connectors in addition to an S/PDIF digital input. Also available is the ability to connect balanced line inputs via the locking XLR connectors. An upgrade to the DR-100, an already versatile unit, the rugged DR-100mkII extends the functionality of a professional portable recorder while improving the overall sound.
The Senal ENG-18RL is a broadcast-quality omnidirectional dynamic microphone. The dynamic capsule picks up sound in a 360° pattern and does not require a battery or phantom power, making it a reliable choice for critical field applications. The microphone's exceptionally low handling noise and resistance to wind noise and vocal plosives make it perfect for professional ENG applications like live reporting, interviews, and press conferences.
At multiple areas inside the microphone, natural rubber with special shock-absorbing properties is bonded to carbon steel rings to isolate the sealed inner shell from the outer shell. This system protects the microphone capsule from impacts and inclement weather, and dissipates kinetic energy, dramatically reducing handling noise and resonance due to rustling and knocking.
The microphone also incorporates multistage wind protection to minimize wind noise and vocal plosives. A mesh grille, acoustic foam, acoustic fabric, and another layer of acoustic foam work to diffuse excess sound pressure from wind and breath. A fixed rigid carbon-steel ring with a unique bullet-shaped design disperses breath to minimize vocal plosives.
The EQ curve is tailored for broadcast use, with a gradual low-frequency roll-off to keep out unwanted rumble, a pronounced midrange to ensure speech intelligibility, and a high-frequency roll-off to eliminate hiss and sibilance distortion. Whether broadcasting on television, AM/FM radio, or over the internet, the ENG-18RL is designed to ensure that dialogue cuts through the mix, and can be broadcast live without EQ adjustment.
The ENG-18RL features a durable aluminum-alloy shaft designed for EMI rejection and reduced internal resonance, with a matte black finish for a professional appearance and minimum light reflection. The mic is also long enough to accommodate a mic flag.

The SM93 is an omnidirectional, subminiature, lavalier electret condenser microphone designed for use in TV broadcasting, theater, and sound reinforcement applications where a visually unobtrusive microphone is desirable. Despite its small size, the 93 microphone element provides full, clear sound comparable to that of much larger microphones. Its frequency response is tailored to body-worn applications, with low-end roll-off and presence rise. Optimum pickup is achieved when the microphone is worn on the user's chest. However, high quality sound can also be obtained when the microphone is worn in the hair, sewn into clothing, or attached to an acoustic instrument such as a guitar. The SM93 is supplied with a sew-on mounting bracket, a mounting block with attached tie bar, and an acoustic windscreen to minimize wind noise in outdoor applications.
The SM93 is also supplied with a dual mounting block with attached tie bar. The SM93 is powered by phantom power supplied by broadcast, sound reinforcement or recording equipment, or an external phantom supply. The SM93 operates over an extremely wide voltage range of 11 to 52 VDC, covering both DIN and IEC phantom power standards. A dual-channel power supply (Shure Model PS1A) is available for providing phantom power to the SM93.
Subminiature lavalier design; ideal size for theater, television broadcasting, video, film, and sound reinforcement
Small, inconspicuous mounting hardware
Full, clear sound comparable to larger microphones
Smooth extended frequency response with presence rise specially tailored for chest-worn microphone operation
Controlled low-frequency roll-off reduces low-frequency clothing and room noise
Low distortion, wide dynamic range
Versatile mounting accessories allow a variety of low-visibility applications
Preamplifier assembly can be pocketed, strapped to the body, or clipped to belt or waistband
Wide-range phantom powering accepts all commonly used voltages
Auray Square Microphone Flag (Black)
This Auray 2.25" Square Microphone Flag fits any size handheld ENG microphone. The flag includes two foam inserts that accomodate various handle sizes. The square area is black and provides sufficient space for a station ID logo.
Senal SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones
The SMH-500 Professional Studio Headphones from Senal feature accurate sound, superior comfort, and durable materials. They are designed for studio and light field applications. The over-ear, closed-back design provides ample isolation to block out ambient noise on location, and prevent headphone leakage when recording in the studio. Their soft, replaceable ear cushions, lightweight design and refined sound ensure a comfortable listening experience, even during extended sessions.
Equipped with 40mm neodymium drivers at 58 ohm impedance, the SMH-500 headphones are designed to be loud enough when attached to low-powered devices such as mobile phones and mp3 players, yet robust enough to handle studio headphone amps without distortion.
The headphones are designed with an EQ curve that's been tailored for an enhanced low end that allows engineers to detect rumble and monitor bass frequencies effectively. The excellent high-frequency response has been enhanced to accurately and clearly reproduce spatial detail. There is also a slight bump in the midrange to maintain focus on vocal and dialogue intelligibility.
In addition to great sound, the SMH-500 headphones offer superior comfort with a soft padded headband. The 10' single-sided coiled cable allows freedom of movement for musicians, editors, and engineers.
Whether monitoring in the field, studio or on a portable device, the SMH-500 headphones provide an accurate and comfortable listening experience.
Kopul Studio Elite 4000 Series XLR M to XLR F Microphone Cable - 6' (1.8 m), Black
The Kopul Studio Elite 4000 Series XLR M to XLR F Microphone Cable (6') is a studio-quality cable for connecting mics to mixers, preamps, audio interfaces and recorders; or to be used in any other application where XLR connectivity is required. The cable is engineered to be both quiet and durable, and is well-suited for critical recording and broadcast situations.
Studio Elite 4000 Series cables are made from 24 AWG OFC copper wire that's wrapped with PE insulation and a conductive PVC inner shield. A cotton-yarn inner layer helps reduce electrostatic and microphonic noise. A 98% braided outer shield makes the cable resistant to EMI and RFI noise. The Neutrix XX silver connectors provide a high level of connectivity, and all the solder connections are shrink-wrapped for protection.
98% braided shield offers protection from EMI and RFI noise.
Twin-conductive PVC inner shielding provides 100% coverage of the core conductor. It helps keep the cable's signal from radiating and affecting nearby cables, and also helps prevent external EMI from penetrating to the cable's core.
24 AWG oxygen-free stranded copper inner core provides the best possible conductivity.
Cotton yarn reduces electrostatic and microphonic noise.
All solder points shrink-wrapped for protection.
Neutrik XX silver connectors offer high conductivity.
