The walimex Pro Aptaris Universal XL Action-Set Kit from B&H provides all of the components needed to get your DSLR camera ready for professional video applications. The Action-Set includes the Aptaris Universal XL Adjustable DSLR Cage, Pro Rod Module, Handle Grip Module, and Shoulder Module. The versatile rig and be configured for handheld, tripod, or shoulder-mounted shooting and accepts a wide range of optional accessories.
The Aptaris Universal XL Adjustable DSLR Cage protects your DSLR camera while providing multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded attachment points for included accessories such as a cold shoe and a handle, as well as optional accessories. The cage features over two inches of height adjustment allowing you to use it with a variety of DSLR and compact mirrorless cameras. Your camera mounts to the cage via a 1/4"-20 captive mounting screw, and two included stoppers can be mounted to the base to prevent your camera from twisting on the base. If your camera's hot shoe is vertically aligned with its mounting screw you can use the included hot shoe stabilizer to lock your camera to the cage using your cameras hot shoe, providing a second attachment point.
The height adjustable Rod Module mounts on the Aptaris cage using quick-action locks and provides standard 15mm rods for additional optional accessories such as a follow focus or matte box. The rod module can be mounted on a tripod or a quick-release plate via the thread at the bottom. For shoulder-mounted shooting, the Grip Module and Shoulder Module are provided.
The Grip Module and Shoulder Module mount on Rod Module's 15mm rods. The Grip Module provides left and right handles with a locking rosette feature, while the Shoulder Module extends the cage forward and in toward your body for easier viewing of your camera's LCD screen while shooting. It features a four soft shoulder pads for comfortable shooting, an offset support angle bracket, and two 15mm rods 11.8" (30cm) in length support. The module is suitable for both left and right shoulders.

Can this rig be mounted on an Arca-Swiss compatible clamp directly in both portrait and landscape mode, or can I put an Arca-type clip on the side to make it mountable in portrait mode?
We have not heard of that configuration and unfortunately cannot try it out. However, since there are many mounting holes on the Aptaris, we feel that mounting on L bracket should not be an issue.

Will a 1DC fit into this cage? Or a 5D with a battery grip?
The Walimex inside maximum height is133 mm. The Canon 1DC is 160mm tall and the 5D Mark III with the grip is approximately the same. Unfortunately then you would not be able to use this cage for those cameras. This is also the case for other cages that I know as well. I would surmise that users find out that the extra height of the big cameras is a hindrance and prefer a lower profile camera for video work.

Will this cage work with the Sony A7SII +VG-C2EM ?
Have an A7s which works with it. Not sure about the VG-C2EM, but the cage is expandable in terms of height with a seperate extension that you can purchase, if the available height is not sufficient.

At NAB Walimex was showing this set up but with a full cage for the Sony A7S. They said that the full cage was coming out soon and you would have it. Has/is it coming out? If so when and what price point?

What if the 1/4 20 mount on the bottom of the camera is not directly centered under the hot shoe. I am using an A7sII with an aftermarket battery grip. Is there a way to slide left and right on the hot shoe mount or camera 1/4 20 mount?

Will this work with Olympus EM-5 Mark II? I also have the HLD-8G camera grip attached for the earphones jack to monitor audio during video recording.
We see no reason that the camera and grip combination you have would not work with the Aptaris. The Aptaris is one two known cages that is height adjustable so this should be very easy. (The other is by Chroszeil.)

Yes, the walimex Pro Aptaris LWS base plate can work with the walimex Pro Aptaris Universal XL Adjustable DSLR Cage. You can use most any 15mm follow focus/matte box/base plate combination you wish. That is because 15mm rigs follow a world wide standard.
