Worth The WAIT

Because of the supply chain interruptions, I ordered in April 2021. After SIX months it B & H finally delivered. They were so good in notifying me each month that it was back ordered!! WELL WORTH THE WAIT. I shoot with a Nikon D610 and 200-500mm and this lens gives a whopping 700mm lens!!! I lose one stop of light and my F5.6 is always at F8 or smaller aperture. This is problematic ONLY in reduced light (expected). In adequate light it focuses fast and accurate with back button focusing. I was blown away with the sharpness of images hand held. Obviously, the closer the subject, the better, but it really pulls things in. I set on manual, auto iso, ss in accordance with the expected activity, check my histogram, adjust +/- exposure and shoot away! Couldn't be more pleased.

Nikon TC-14E III Teleconverter

I was not sure if this convertor would work for me and was leery. But couple it between my Nikon d850 and my Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 lens, I get good results. Pleased.

Requires Perfect Technique

Due to the longer focal length, the resulting narrower depth of field, and loss of transmitted light, using the teleconverter requires perfect technique. Focus must be exact and light levels need to be high. Unless I absolutely need the longer focal length, I will shoot at 500 mm and crop the photo. When needed, the teleconverter does an adequate job.

Tack Sharp

The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III is tack sharp with all of my telephoto lenses. This gives me just a little extra reach that I need for wild life photography.

Works well, if the combinations are good

I have the TC-14E iii on a Nikon 200-500mm VR, through the FTX adapter into a z7ii. It does, as is well known, lose a stop and a half, but the superior ISO capabilities of the z7ii easily overcome that. From the Exif data, I can clearly see the ISO increase a bit, and the Fstop change, but visually I can barely tell any difference between 500mm native and 700mm with the TC. Just a little bit more reach, but totally worth it, on my gear at least. I'm even going to try the 1.7x next.

Still learning

I've only had a few good days to use it, because with my lens I require lots of sun to keep my iso down. For my needs this will work great especially when on a tripod.

is this compable with nikon d-850 with nikon 70-200mm f=4?
Asked by: Rahman
The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III is fully compatible for use with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/4G ED VR. When paired together, both items would make the lens the equivalent of a 98-280mm f/5.6 lens. As the Nikon D850 DSLR camera may autofocus with lenses that have an equivalent maximum aperture of f/8 or faster, the Nikon 70-200mm f/4G ED VR and the TE-14E III together would be compatible for use on the Nikon D850 DSLR camera.

I have a D500 and am planning to buy 500mm PF. How will the TC1.4 fare in this combination?
Asked by: Rezaul
While the optical results remain pretty great despite TC optics, the autofocus does take a hit in some cases/circumstances. Due to the huge variance in results based on your scenario, your results may vary with the TC, but we believe the trade-off is reasonable/acceptable.

The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III, is not an "extender" for macro work, the Tele convertor if for lengthening the zoom of a telephoto lens.
