Phantom 2 Pre-Assembled Bundle with GoPro HERO4 Black (Wheeled Case) Overview

The Phantom 2 Pre-Assembled Bundle with GoPro HERO4 Black is put together by B&H and aims to provide you with all of the essential hardware to start flying and capturing great HD video while at it. The bundle includes the Phantom 2 Quadcopter (original version) with spare battery, the Zenmuse H4-3D 3-axis gimbal, the GoPro HERO4 Black Edition action camera, a 5.8 GHz video transmission system, a 7" FPV monitor with built-in 5.8 GHz receiver, a battery and charger from the monitor, iOSD module, 5.6 field monitor, 32GB microSDHC card, cables and sundries parts, and a watertight hard case with wheels to pack it all--and more--in. This is a "ready-to-fly" package, meaning the gimbal, iOSD, video transmitter, and associated hardware is installed in-house by B&H technicians and tested to be in working order. Of course, you will still have to follow a series of pre-flight calibration steps before the Phantom 2 is ready to hit the skies.

At the center of this bundle is the Phantom 2 Quadcopter, a four-rotor remote control helicopter designed to act as an aerial platform for a GoPro HERO action camera. It features self-tightening propellers, a slot-in battery with LED indicators visible during flight, and includes a 2.4 GHz hand-held radio controller (transmitter) that is pre-bound to the aircraft and has a range of up to 3,280' line-of-sight, depending on conditions. A spare 5200 mAh flight battery is included as part of the bundle, and flying time for each battery is estimated to run up to 22 minutes. In addition to the included AC charger, there is a car charger available separately so you can always keep a battery charging in the field.

The Zenmuse H3-3D Gimbal is used mount on the Phantom 2. Unlike its predecessor, the H3-2D, the H3-3D provides not only tilting and canting, but also allows the camera to pan side-to-side. The GCU (gimbal control unit) is built into the Phantom 2 so there is no additional internal hardware to install and operation is plug-and-play. Adjustments and firmware updates can be made using the assistant software for Windows, which is downloadable from DJI.

The GoPro HERO4 Black Edition is included so you can actually capture aerial footage whether for recording, as an "eye-in-the-sky" to get the FPV (first person view) experience, or both. The Black Edition features 4K video capture at up to 30 fps, 2.7K capture at up to 50 fps, 1200 fps in Full HD 1080p, and can also take up to 12MP still photos. Internally, it records video and photos to a microSD memory card up to 64GB in capacity, and there is 32GB card included as part of the bundle. Although the HERO4 has built-in Wi-Fi, it is very important this feature is turned OFF while it is mounted on the Phantom 2. Otherwise the Wi-Fi can potentially interfere with the quadcopter's internal receiver causing the controls to become unresponsive.

To give you the first-person view (FPV) experience, the AVL58 5.8 GHz Video Link Kit and a 7" LCD field monitor with built-in 5.8 GHz receiver are included. The monitor can receive signals at distances up to 1.2 miles line-of-sight--depending on conditions and the transmitter used. Unlike other monitors--which use digital processing--the screen won't go blue or black when the signal gets weak; you'll still see a little "snow" and be able to see parts of your image rather than a complete loss. It can power from either Sony L-series or Canon LP-E6 type batteries. A NP-F550 type battery and a compact wall charger are included in the bundle.

The iOSD module takes heading, altitude, GPS coordinate, horizontal and vertical speed, and other data from the Phantom 2's flight computer and superimposes it over the image sent back to the video receiver at the ground end. Not only will be you be able to see what your GoPro sees, but also know exactly how the Phantom 2 is flying.

Note: This kit is pre-modified by B&H specialists before shipping to ensure proper and synchronized operation. These alterations may include, but are not limited to, soldering, resoldering, updating software and more. Also note, some of the accessories in this bundle may include parts not required for this particular installation. These parts have been left in the box as they could be useful if you ever decide to re-purpose any of the hardware for future applications.

Warning: Never use the DJI Phantom 2 Quadcopter with your GoPro camera when both devices have their Wi-Fi systems turned on. The DJI Phantom 2's radio controller and the GoPro HERO4's Wi-Fi run on the same frequency, so if you use them together when both Wi-Fi systems are engaged, the DJI Phantom's transmitter will lose the ability to communicate with the DJI Phantom Quadcopter. Whenever this happens, you will not be able to tell the Phantom where to fly. This may result in loss of property or damage to your equipment.

question

Where do you mount the monitor to in this kit?
Asked by: Anonymous
The easiest thing is to mount it to the controller. The simplest way that I found is to use this 3D printed mount that snaps onto the controller (including the newer Phantom version), and has a screw for the monitor's tripod mount. Search rave dji monitor mount to find it, as this answer box does not allow links to other sites.

question

Hi I bought the phantom vision but the range is too short for us when we do recording of coast lines we go out of range before we can, the vision plus and the phantom 2 pre assembled kit for 2229.95 and the new inspire 1 which one has more flight range in terms of distance metres?
Asked by: charles s.
The longest flight distance belongs to the DJI Inspire 1 since this will use the LightBridge system, to communicate between controller and Inspire 1.

question

One of the answers under the H4-3D gimbal Q&A stated that there were some issues pairing the Hero 4 with the H3-3D. I am interested in this pre-assembled bundle but would like to replace the H3 offered here with the H4. When could I expect that option?
Asked by: Clay H.
The H4-3D gimbal was not an option when I purchased mine. only the H3/H3+/H4 gimbal. I assumed that if They assembled it They would assemble it correctly. THEY didn't. After days of checking You-tube videos I found one video that shows the problem. THEY. B&H apparently use Blind people to assemble. While the error will not harm your system, you cannot achieve full travel of the gimbal. The fix (easy) and allows full travel. I'm sorry I don't have the URL of the video showing how to properly assemble. I'll guess if you put in the key words you'll find it. There are other videos showing many of the other mistakes or enhancements that one should do that B&H don't. I thought having Pro Installation would assure correct assembly. (It does NOT)

question

can you control the gopro hero4 thru the elvid wireless monitor? i.e. start & stop recording or take single shots
Asked by: Kendall C.
No, the monitor is just for visual reference. You also cannot have the wifi running on the GoPro while flying as it may interfere with signals. You have to setup, start and stop the GoPro while the drone is on the ground.
