Dracast LED500 Pro overview

  • 1Description

At just 4.0 lb the LED500 Pro Bi-Color LED Light from Dracast is an ideal choice for location work, interviews and small sets where color accuracy, control and flicker-free output are of major importance. Variable color temperature from 3200K-5600K or anywhere in between means that you can quickly match the prevailing ambient or artificial light balance with a simple twist of a knob while others are still applying filters. Dimming is equally convenient via another knob that adjusts the light intensity from 100-0% with negligible color shift. The low electrical draw of just 30W means a timely return on your investment.

The durable anodized aluminum frame is supported by an oversized, U-shaped yoke with locking knobs on each side and a standard 5/8" receiver. The LED500 can be used worldwide, powered by the included 100-240 VAC adapter in the studio, or by V-Mount batteries in the field. Four-way barndoors for contouring and control of the LED500's 45-degree beam angle are available separately. For protection during transport and storage, a carry case is included.

    Dracast LED500 Pro reviews

LED500 Pro Bi-Color LED Light with V-Mount Battery Plate is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 96.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Puts Out Solid unit. I'm very pleased with the color temperature. Quite surprised by the out put of light too. First time using it I had it placed as a kicker for an interview. Had to to dim it way down to light my subject appropriately. I now have the barn doors so clipping diffusion to the light will give more options of use with this led light. The case could be better though, it's a bit snug where the yoke come in contact with the edge of case and I must flip the yoke to the top of the light so the plastic shield that protects the less doesn't fall out when storing the light. But everything fits inside. Happy that this LED takes V-mount batteries too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The do-it-all light! I just finished a documentary shoot in Ireland and used a combination of Dracast lights for my primary kit. (1K, (2) 500s, and 160)I really love these lights! Clean smooth pattern, the bi-color option is great, the barndoors are sturdy and the battery life is awesome - I never needed to plug into the power there. My only critique is that I wish the yoke was a bit bigger, because you can't rotate the light completely around when the battery is on it.Overall, fantastic lights though and they stood up the challenges of rough international baggage handling without a single failure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful color accuracy I got this light to use in the documentary I'm making since the old one I had just wasn't cutting it anymore, and it works like a dream. It's lightweight and easy to move wherever it's needed, it doesn't overheat, and it puts out just the right amount of light to make everything look great. Best of all, the color is much more accurate than lights I've used in the past. The color temperature is very consistent - there were no color changes even when we had it on constantly for a two hour filming session. The accurate color, portability, and quality adds up to make it the best LED light I've ever used in filming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great - but something you may not know The way this light works is that when you dial in all tungsten for example, only the tungsten lights are on and the daylight ones are off, so your light output is less. Same with dialing in all daylight. If you put the dial in the middle, then ALL the lights are on and it's much brighter, but you get mixed lighting... I chose this light because I rarely shoot in and ALL tungsten or ALL daylight environment...always mixed lighting in some way. So, instead of screwing around with gels (full, half, quarter, whatever) just turn the dial!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from low output, but quality of light is good Build quality appears very solid, and overall I am pleased with this light. The output is not strong, but that's a given for all bi-color lights that split output between two sets of LEDs. With both sets of LEDs on, you have approximately 4400K light, which is brighter than the daylight or tungsten range, but may or may not work depending on your lighting conditions. I will probably buy a second one of these, as one light is not strong enough for most lighting situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent professional video Light This video light has professional appearance and quality! Very happy with it. Sturdy metal frame design. Adjustable white light from 3200-5600K, Nice variable brightness. AC plug. Option for battery only use. Great addition for professional video shots. I just it for documentary indoor interviews, but it certainly can be used outdoors with battery as well.....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Color Rendition Great little light. Got it with the portable case and tripod. Includes V-mount battery plate. Adjustments are made with a dial (no digital color temp display). Not very accurate for setting color temp but with a gray card and a camera it's not too hard. Power output does vary with bi-color selection. You get the most output when you have a full blend of 3200 and 5600k. My testing showed that it's range is slightly beyond what it listed for Color Temp. One great aspect of this panel is that the dimmer is a true voltage dimmer. It doesn't dim the LEDs by reducing the refresh rate. I ran tests from very low output power and didn't see any flicker. Did 60fps video capture with high shutter speeds and still couldn't see any flicker.Solid build quality. Does NOT come with barn doors, which is a bit of a bummer. They are available for purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For Small Shoots I am an aspiring documentary filmmaker. I bought this light because i needed something small that i could take with me on shoots in homes with people, and in businesses where i wouldn't be a pest with large equipment. It was a huge bonus for me that it is barely warm to the touch and doesn't make my interviewees uncomfortably hot. I've used this light in several of my interviews and i love it because i can change the coloring, and the accuracy is amazing. I would definitely recommend this light to other aspiring videographers.
