    IRIS 458129 reviews

IRIScan Anywhere 3 Wi-Fi Portable Scanner is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not perfect but quite useful This is one of the few mobile scanners I found with a small LCD screen for quick review. I am collecting ID's and need to have some assurance the scanner grabbed the image, not just beep. The user interface is confusing. The manual has bits of paper here and there for using the WiFi, also confusing. I need to hold down a button to activate the hotspot then try to figure out the WiFi password (hint: it's on the bottom of the scanner). Their mobile app only works after you are finished scanning, to which you need to connect via WiFi, which cuts you off the the Internet, so you need to disconnect again to save your images to a dropbox or email. Again, awkward.Connecting via the USB cable sometimes work. Often it comes up as an external drive then disconnects causing the Mac to yell at me. I gave up using that route. You can also pop the microSD card out and use a card reader. What worked best for me was connecting directly to a Mac via the hotspot it generates, using the browser to navigate to images, and save them to the desktop. You also have access to change the password and SSID from there. For full-size pages, the 1200dpi is not impressive but it does a reasonable job scanning. Or, perhaps it was saving to PDF format which wasn't thrilling. It did not prompt me to scan multi-page PDF's. The jpg images look amazing and captured a driver's license image with full clarity. I was concerned about the credit card thickness of the licenses, but haven't had a jam.The most annoying feature is the automatic crop. The scanner uses an aspect ratio crop with very tight margins with no way to override them. Scanning in something small like a business card or driver's license often chopped off the edges. After trying fancy carrier sheets, what worked best was a high quality photo paper in 5x7 format, glossy side up. Hold the document 1/4 inch from the front and left margin of the paper and feed thru together making sure it's perfectly straight and up against the rail. This made a fine scan with some practice and leaves lots of white space to crop out later. The hardware is solid and scans very quickly from power-up. The mobile app has some quick edit, rotate, and crop features along with PDF export (perhaps multi-page PDF?) These features were in-app purchases.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I was looking for a duplex mobile scanner, but it seems they don't make them, or if they do, the reviews were terrible. After much looking, I landed on the IRIScan Anywhere 3 Wi-Fi, and it suits my needs to a tee. It has a fast per page scanning, color or b/w, about 5 sec., it grasps the page nicely, and even on med, it scans a solid image. The preview screen on the unit is fairly useless, even magnifying it doesn't help, but the wi-fi to my iphone is easy verification that the scan worked well. There were several instances where the page wasn't grabbed properly, and I only obtained a partial image - i'll attribute that to me, and not the machine. I just scanned 270 pages as pdf images on a full charge - each page scanned easily and clearly, and saved onto the sd chip that comes with the unit. The box doesn't tell you, but the micro sd chip is 4 gb, more than ample for general purposes. The 270 pages that I scanned used 383 mb. there is no real printed manual in the box - the company notes that in order to save paper, they have the manuals loaded, along with the scanning software, loaded onto the sd card. The instructions are a bit challenging, but I had little problem making my way through the set up. the wi-fi connection worked well, but was a little slow in transfer. The easiest method of transferring images was by direct connection to my desk-top, where the sd card shows up as a removable directory. the unit is not heavy, it is not bulky, it's reasonably priced and easy to carry around. While initially reticent, I'm quite happy with the purchase.
