This Dracast on-camera light is not too heavy, effective and cost-efficient! Just make sure you tighten all knobs.

I am a social event videographer. I used this LED light for the first time and it worked great especially with my ability to control the amount of light and light color.

Small. light weight and sturdy construction. Wish it came in black with aluminum housing. Has thebattery tester to show how much power it has. It's nice and bright, with dimmer and temperature controls, plus 1-4" top socket. Comes with power cord for outlet powering of light. The case is nice, though not very protective, and comes with shoulder strap. Fits right on top my dslr with the supplied ball socket shoe mount. If only barn doors could be attached, then it would be perfect.

Great potential ruined by cheap and unreliable construction

First, this review is for the plastic version. Some of the reviews here seem to be actually for the aluminum one. What you need to know: This is almost a spot light with a 30 degrees light. The aluminum version has a wider flood beam at 45 degrees of through. The goods: It's light. The light quality seems pretty good. I would rate it a bit cooler than 5600 maybe close to 6000 but that's to my eyes. I bought this because I wanted a compact light with a narrower beam. Because the beam is narrow it actually has a longer reach than a light with a more flood focal LED. So it makes it ideal to put a gel in there and use it as a hair light, kick light, etc. There is a slit to put gels in there. The plastic version does not come with any gels, but you can easily cut gels to size an slide it in there. The bad: I returned the light upon receiving it. The battery holder was poorly molded and the battery would not sit tightly in there. I tried it with two different Sony NPF type batteries that worked fine on other LEDs. Both of them I had to press the battery tightly to make enough contact for the light to turn on. The moment I stopped pressing on the batter or I slightly moved the light, it would lose contact. I didn't order a replacement, as much I liked the idea of this light. But, even if the battery fit was okay, the plastic molding that holds the battery does not seem well constructed and I'm guessing it would eventually become loose after a week of usage. If it had a DC input (like the aluminum version), I could have possible lived with that, but since battery connection is the only power source, the moment it wears off you have a piece of junk on your hands. Lastly, the light is unnecessarily thick. I feel like with better engineering, they could have cut the width by 1/3 or a 1/2. So it feels like an empty plastic shell. I would have paid 30-40% more for the exact light but with more robust construction and ability to add barn doors. Great light quality cheap and unreliable construction So don't be tempted by the discount price. There is a reason for it. The quality of manufacturing is inline with the price it's being sold.

It does exactly what it's designed to do. Solid build quality, and high output in a compact light.

Can it share camera battery power, or does it need to have its own battery?
Asked by: Julie H.
It will need to have its own battery. Small as it is, it draws too much power to run off the camera. If it did, neither one would last very long. // Also, if there are any other technical or product related questions, feel free to contact us directly at any time at [email protected]

Does it ship with diffusion and/or daylight filter?
Asked by: Gary
No diffusion, light does not spread light much. Does have daylight color temp. Not high output, using house power helps output.

Do the knobs have detents? One should never by an LED light without this essential feature.

No, but in my opinion for the money this is the one of the best LED's on the market.
