    Dracast LED160 reviews

LED160 3200-5600K Variable Color On-Camera Light with Battery and Charger (Aluminum, Blue) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality, Power, Control Used on camera and as a small kicker that fits in small places.Having owned other mini fixtures before, this is a quantum leap forward. The high CRI and continuously variable color temperature means it mixes well with all the light sources you encounter (except sodium vapor, duh) and can be used as a gentle fill as well as a powerful (enough) key for a fixture this size. It's the right size, doesn't weigh too much and has very good battery life and a battery charge indicator. Two 1/4-20 mounts and a shoe mount with ball are included.A really good value at twice the price, this fixture is really worth having in every kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile Light! I've been using this light mainly as a onboard camera light for my Sony PDW-700 XDCAM. This kit comes with a D-tap to power the light using the camera's battery. This light is bright and the bi-color operation works great. One can dial in a desired color temperature and adjust the brightness. The light has mounting holes on the top and bottom, and makes a great backlight. The kit comes with a large capacity Sony type battery, an AC charger and a car charger. This light is well built. I've been using it at the White House and on the Presidential primaries across the country. This Dracast LED160 outperforms the competition. No problems or hiccups. Great light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Powerful, Very Versatile This is a follow up to a previous review I wrote earlier. By now this light have lived atop my Sony XDCAM 700 camera for 6 months. It's been banged around in an overhead bin of an airplane, in the back of my crew car, out in the weather, and in the Oval Office. I have not had one problem with this light and would recommend this light to anyone. It comes with a D cable to connect to the camera or Anton Bauer battery plate. I use it for off the shoulder interviews inside the Capitol, I use it to light up my reporter for live shots in the field, I use it as a backlight with the included power supply I even used it inside the White House. I can dial in the color temperature that I want to use, I can adjust the brightness. The Dracast LED 160 is so far the best on-board camera light that I've used so far in my 30 years in the tv news business.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great color accurate LED! I love this light. The most important thing to me in an LED light was accurate color. Though I don't have expensive testing equipment, I tested this against other LED lights using an 18% grey card and setting the white balance manually on my camera, then looking at the RGB parade in Premiere. I tested the ikan IB508 Dual Color LED, the Genaray SpectroLED Outfit 500 Bi-Color, and Litepanels MicroPro (daylight only). Right away you could see the purple cast of some of the lights for both tungsten and daylight settings (with the camera WB set to 3200 and 5600 respectively). All had a bit of a purple color cast at 5600 but Dracast was the least pronounced. And it was spot-on neutral gray with the light set to tungsten and the camera set to 3200. Amazing! I can set up this light and dial in 3200 on my camera and know I'll be able to match it to my tungsten lights without the green or magenta cast that other LEDs have. It really throws a good amount of light too (which I realize is a really vague statement, but for a small light it was impressive).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Light! I use this light on top of my Sony XDCAM 700. What a powerful and versatile product! I cover national network news in DC, therefore a lot of politics; i.e talking heads. This light is bright enough to do off the shoulder live shots, interviews, etc. I can match the color temperature of the room with the adjustable temperature dial and the intensity of light as well. I also use this light as a backlight to match my other Dracast interview lights. I was very pleased that the kit came with a large NP Sony battery, a D tap cable to power the light from the XDCAM, a DC car battery charger, AC power supply and a small ball mount. It all fits in a nylon case, though I just keep the 160 mounted on my camera. The aluminum case is very durable. So far I have not encountered any problems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Extremely Disappointing Have been doing event videography for over 20 years and have worked with many lights, needed a few new ones and decided to try one of these. While the variable Color feature seemed attractive, the problem is that when you choose 3200 or 5600 you lose half of the lights. That is, only 80 of the 160 are dedicated to each color. Therefore the brightness which is already just barely average becomes unacceptable in a low light environment. With battery it is rather heavy for a handheld video camera and feels unbalanced. Also, the shoe provided to attach to the camera is the adjustable ball type and quite overwhelmed by the weight I must assume.. It feel apart less than 30 minutes into the event we were shooting. Needless to say it was returned. Will be returning to my previously used lights despite being a bit more expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Package I bought this on-camera light combo for special event videography and to replace an old on-camera light that was having flickering problems. After using it several times, the light has exceeded expectations. As expected, it is great for close-range shots but it is bright enough to reach farther than that. This is a nice multi-purpose light, with the many dimming and color temp combinations you can put together. The battery that comes with the kit holds a long charge and having the plate and charger with the kit is very convenient.
