ProMediaGear PLX4X overview

  • 1Description

The 4" Universal L-Bracket from ProMediaGear fits numerous SLR and DSLR cameras of varied sizes and brands and enables fast changes between portrait and landscape orientation without the need to readjust your head and recompose the shot. You can simply release the bracket from your Arca-Swiss style quick-release clamp (not included), and lock the bracket back in place on its vertical side. Using an L-Bracket for vertical orientation shooting also facilitates a sturdier base of support than tilting the head to a 90° position. By utilizing a slightly protruding rubber cord on the base plate, the L-bracket rests directly on the camera eliminating any play or twisting.

This L-Bracket is designed as two separate pieces which enables the base plate to be used separately. The vertical bracket can be extended outward 1.5" from the camera body for better cable port and battery chamber access and simplified centering of your image. This bracket will also fit professional DSLR cameras and those with a battery grip attached. A removable strap loop and built-in, magnetic Allen wrench storage are featured.

Fits a multitude of cameras of varying sizes and brands including those with battery grips attached.
Two-piece design enables versatility when mounting the bracket. The vertical bracket can be removed when only the base piece is needed. Also, the vertical plate can be extended outward on two hardened steel rods to allow easier access for cables and also to better position the image center.
Arca-Swiss type compatibility fits heads by Arca-Swiss, Kirk, Markins, Really Right Stuff, Wimberley and others.
Two safety stops are incorporated into both the vertical and base pieces.
Built from anodized aluminum alloy.
Rubber cords in the base plate provide a snug fit for varying camera body sizes and prevent slipping and twisting.
Features 1/4"-20 threads on base plate.
Provides magnetic Allen wrench holder.

    ProMediaGear PLX4X reviews

    Universal L-Bracket (4") is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Precision Engineering Tremendous value for the money. Use this beauty on a 7D with a grip. I put it through it's paces on 3 shoots now. The Arca Swiss design fits into the Acratech GP Ballhead clamp with precision. No movement whatsoever. I set the vertical out approx. 1/2 from the access ports for easy access. This is a permanent installation that does not require removal on the Canon 7D/Grip. As with most ProMediaGear accessories, comes with 1/4 20 female threads on both the plate & the vertical Bracket... I now have the ability to go from landscape to portrait instantly. Mission accomplished, I highly recommend this Universal (4) L - Bracket...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product different than picture, but still works PMG has changed the design of the vertical bracket - instead of just one large open slot, its divided into two areas with additional 1/4-20 mount holes. PMG's website has updated pics. I like this bracket. For my D800E I had to slide the mount forward in its slot so that the vertical bracket would clear the USB port - it's tight, but it clears, even with the Nikon USB plug accessory attached. My only wish? That it was easier to detach the vertical bracket. You have to loosen two hex screws using the supplied allen wrench. Since it's a universal L-bracket, you can't extract the battery from the grip without removing it. At least the wrench stores in the bracket itself though, that's handy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well-Constructed; Allows for Cables in Portrait Orientation I'm using this universal bracket on a Sony A7R with battery grip. The bracket is useful because it makes it possible to achieve the full range of tripod head movement in portrait orientation, while using a cabled remote and battery grip. The magnetized slot for the hex wrench (required either to remove the bracket from the camera or to remove the vertical portion of the bracket, and therefore required to access the battery compartment on the battery grip) is a very nice touch. The magnet is strong, and I don't anticipate losing the wrench in the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Designed This is a bracket made to fit on most large DSLRs. This L Bracket has several advantages over the custom made brackets for specific cameras: 1) can be used with or without the battery grip and 2) can be easily moved from one camera to another. The design in 2 portions allow easy access to all the connectors. It also allow the access to the batteries in the battery grip. It can be used as a base plate alone, or in combo with the vertical portion of the bracket. The 2 rubber tracks on the base allow perfect fit on the base of the camera or battery grip and prevent rotation of the base plate. The Allen key can be stored securely in the vertical portion of the bracket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This is my second review on this product. In reference to L brackets it is important to note that this product has safety stop screws on both the horizontal and vertical plates. Some of the more pricey custom L brackets do not. This bracket is not camera specific but fits my D7200 with battery grip just fine it can be extended for cable connections.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am using this on all of my cameras I really like the size of the l-bracket. It mounts to my Olympus E-M1 camera bodies with the battery grip and provides both landscape and portrait mounting on my tripod. It is easy to adjust and easy to remove to change batteries, etc. I let a friend borrow one for his new Canon camera and it worked great for him as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I have several of these with both the 4 and 3 side pieces (have to order the 3 direct). I prefer them to custom L brackets because: They are much cheaper. The 4 and 3 side pieces can be swapped around depending on whether or not I am using a battery grip. They can be used on different cameras. I have had no issues with the bottom piece coming loose or rotating. However, they aren't a custom fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent bracket, very well made I use this bracket with my Nikon D800 to take multiple photos - mainly in the portrait orientation - to make stitched panoramas. It works very well for this. Being an L bracket, it is easy to quickly unclamp from the tripod and switch to the landscape orientation. The bracket is very well made. The sliding pins for adjusting to the camera width fit snugly within the housings in the plate. It is very lightweight, but feels strong. Being a universal bracket, there are multiple options for fitting to different cameras. It does take a bit of setting up to match to the camera body, but once you get the correct plate/pin width setting it stays locked in this position (held with 2 screws) and fits exactly back on the camera with no movement or slop and, so far, no need for additional adjustments. The bracket is attached to camera with an allen (hex) key that fits in a slot inside the bracket and is magnetically held in place - a nice touch. However, it would be even better if the attachment screw had a d-ring type tightener like most tripod plates. But this is only a minor annoyance, as the bracket is slim and light enough to leave on the camera most of the time. I had to remove a couple of extra small screws (not mentioned in the setup instructions) for it to fit properly on my Sirui tripod head and Novoflex macro focussing rail. All the hex keys are provided. I recommend doing a full test run on your setup before going into the field and also taking the keys with you. See https://www.flickr.com/photos/dtimages/ for some more examples of made with product.
