With three photographic targets, the black ColorChecker Passport Photo from X-Rite lets you ease your workflow in a variety of ways. A creative enhancement target allows one-click warming and cooling, and easy evaluation of shadow details. The classic target is the standard 24 patch for creating DNG profiles. The white balance target allows for a consistent white point for a series of images, saving the need to correct each one later in your work flow.

A protective case keeps your targets safe from damage, and has a built-in stand so you can situate the targets to adjust for any scene. The included software lets you easily build DNG profiles, and profile adjustments can be applied to hundreds of images, allowing hours of manual changes to be completed in a few minutes. The portable, versatile kit is an excellent tool for all photographers, from aspiring amateurs to professionals.

ColorChecker Passport Photo (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 719.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Maybe While this device certainly doe what it claims, you should be clear on whether that's what you really need. I have used this device creating single illuminant profiles for bot a Nikon D800e and a Leica M240 M-P. In both cases, the created profile was close enough to the Adobe Standard I was using i Photoshop as to be of little consequence. If you use AWB in your camera I have nothing to offer as I don't use that function. I make a custom white balance for each photo session and shoot in manual mode. What I had been expecting was to match the color rendition from the Nikon and the Leica, and that's not what this device does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Color Checker Passport Usage, take a picture of the Color Checker. Make sure to create a DNG copy of the picture. Then let the software look at the picture, and it will find the passport, and create the icc color profile (temperature) from the DNG file. Apply the same icc profile to the rest of the pictures taken at the same time (in Lightroom 2). You now have the real color on each picture file. Could it be better? No, not really as the job is done to perfection! What's wrong with it? Nothing, what's wrong with starting out with a picture that is an accurate rendition of reality!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great I shoot a Canon 5D 3 as a very serious amateur with Photoshop and now mostly Lightroom. I decided to get this to adjust white balance and colors for my photos of my first grandchild. Most of my shots of him are taken indoors with and without flash, and although I shoot exclusively in RAW, I wanted my colors to be as accurate as possible. The Colorchecker Passport does the job and is very easy to use, once you learn how It integrates especially well with Lightroom and generates a profile that you use. My colors with it have been spot on. If you get it, watch the Mark Wallace video on You Tube to see how to use it with Lightroom.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Check software works with your camera first The color checker passport concept is good but the software needs to be upgraded to work with a high mega-pix camera such as the Canon 5DS/R. I got this kit to build my own color profiles for my Canon 5DSR. At first I was caught out by the faulty software which cannot handle a 5DSR RAW file and just gave me error messages. Fortunately I found a work-around on the internet suggesting only to shoot MRAW-files (a compressed RAW-file format) and using the smaller files to build my custom color profiles for Adobe Lightroom. The color profiles I have built are much, much better than what you get using Adobe Lightroom. This is especially true for the 5DS/R were Adobe has made a very poor job of their color profile. Buying X-rite is however, something I do not recommended before X-rite fixes the problem with their software. I also find it strange that X-rite does not mention the limits of their software anywhere. When I contacted support they answered that they were working on a solution, but this is not mentioned anywhere on their site - also not under the known issues faq.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get Control of the White Balance Color checker passport is an improvement over the standard Greteg Macbeth color checker in several ways. 1. It is housed in a hard case that fits in my pocket. 2. In addition to the standard Greteg Macbetch color checker, it has white balance adjusting squares, that let me make the image warmer or cooler during post processing by balancing to the adjustment squares. 3. It comes with software that lets me easily adjust the color balance to balance all the colors on the standard chart, making colors in a product shot dead on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy all-in-one solution Very easy to use. First, set your exposure. Second, set your camera's custom white balance using the grey card in the Color Checker Passport. Third, capture an image of the Color Checker Passport, (opened to show both the standard color card as well as the enhancement card). If the light changes, repeat. Complete your shoot. Then use Lightroom (or other photo processing software) to create a profile. Apply the profile to the first image. Create a preset. Then apply the same profile to the rest of the images taken in that light. I keep the Color Checker Passport in my photo knapsack and a WhiBal card in my shoulder bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portability and Accuracy! I use this especially when color accuracy is critical like with product photos or documenting paintings and artwork. I love the additional white balance samples that offer warmer and cooler options for portraits and also landscape, that's been a feature I didn't realize how much I'd love until I started using the ColorChecker Passport! Very well designed white balance sampling. It's very small, only a little bit larger than my actual US passport, which makes it easy to pack on any shoot; and the plastic casing seems durable and well designed. Very easy to use with Lightroom's built in white balance color picker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get it right out of the gate! I use it mostly for video production, but it has equally important application in photography as well. ColorChecker Passport is a great compact tool to have on the set to make sure that you wind up with consistent color especially when using more than one camera. For video, I use the color match capability in Davinci Resolve that interacts directly with the colorchecker image from a sample scene of the video. It is not magic and not always perfect, but gives you a good base to launch from. I bought this as a bundle with ColorMunki Display. You need a well calibrated monitor if you are going to get the results you want.
