Record podcasts, voice-overs, and even sung vocals for your productions with the RODE NT-USB, a USB microphone that captures broadcast-quality recordings in your home studio or mobile setup. If all you have is a room and a computer (or iOS device), you can use this microphone to record your voice with resolution and clarity.

Podcasters will appreciate the cardioid polar pattern-which naturally reduces room noise by rejecting any audio to the back and rear of the mic's capsule-as well as the built-in pop filter to minimize p-pops and plosives. Musicians will love the Direct Mix Control, as it will help them balance the level between their own voice and pre-recorded instruments without incurring latency. Both will be thankful the mic comes with all the accessories one needs to set it up right out of the box.

Designed for Your Voice, However You Use It
This mic is designed for your voice, whether you use it to podcast, record voice overs, or to sing over productions you've created in your laptop.
Works with Your Setup
The mic will operate with both Mac and Windows computers as well as iOS tablets, so long as you have the compatible adapter for mobile devices (available separately). No preamp, interface, converters, or mixer are necessary for recording your voice.
Cardioid Polar Pattern for the Untreated Room
The microphone makes use of a directional cardioid polar pattern to minimize off-axis sound. This polar pattern naturally, yet effectively tamps down room tone and focuses the audio capture on what's directly in front of the mic. Depending on your particular room, you may still need a little room treatment, or some noise-reduction software, to address issues such as your computer's hum or your air conditioner—but the chances of that are markedly lower with a cardioid polar pattern.
Built-In 3.5mm Headphone Jack and Direct Mix Control
The mic offers a headphone jack for monitoring. Just plug a pair of headphones into the NT-USB Mini's 3.5mm jack, and you'll be able to listen to your Broadcast-quality audio in all its glory. Also, a convenient volume dial helps you raise or lower the headphone volume—you won't have to change the volume on your computer or your recording software to hear audio at your desired level. Lastly, the mic has a Direct Mix Control, so you can hear your voice balanced against any pre-recorded tracks at just the right level.
Broadcast-Quality Audio Capture
The mic records audio at 16-bit / 48 kHz, giving you the broadcast standard for media playback. Your recording will be up to digital snuff with this mic!
Get Going Right Out of the Box
An included USB cable means you can get up and running right away. An included pop shield helps mitigate vocal pops and plosives for a cleaner sound. A desktop stand is included, as is a ring mount for your own mic stands, and a storage pouch for when the mic is not in use.

RODE NT-USB Reviews

does what it says it will do

I had to decide if I needed a USB mic since I have an audio interface with my home studio...but there are times you don't want to boot everything up. Also, I can use this with a laptop set up and have studio sound. Is this a $5,000 mic? No, but to my ears, it sounds as good as Shure SM series mics. A pro workhorse mic.

Clear sound, easy to use, and just warm enough

This mic isn't overly warm and doesn't have the proximity effect that some podcasters love. But I think it sounds clear and natural, bright but not overly bright. The pickup pattern is pretty wide so you will have background noise, but in a quiet environment, this mic will sound great on the edge of a desk or even with two people. For the money and ease of a USB mic it works great. I personally don't use the headphone jack.

honestly i have not used it yet

Good for USB Mic

I use this for VO auditions on the go. Easy to pack and it's plug and play with your laptop, iPad or iPhone. (adapter needed for ipad/iphone) It's good for a USB mic but doesn't compare too well with XLR mics I own like Sennheiser 600MKE. The stand is kind of blah. But better than no stand.

Good for starters

The mic is easy to use. But I ended up giving it away just a few months later and bought the Shure MV7 mic. I felt like this mic grabbed a lof of ambiance noise, even with sound proof. It is easy to plug in with a USB and easy to use, but the sounds quality was not what I needed for my professional VO work.

Clear and Clean

This mic is good for desktop applications with one or maybe two people. It sounds clear and clean. It is not overly warm or radio sounding with the proximity effect but rather very natural and flat.

Yes this a great microphone to record vocals, voiceover and even to be used for a podcast. I do recommend connecting your headphones on the bottom of microphone where the headphone output is located it will sound more accurate then connecting your headphones to the computer.

What is the greatest recommended distance from which a person should speak into the microphone? How is the audio quality if the person is speaking up to a foot away from it?
Asked by: Trudy
I’m not an expert but I’ve been using them for almost a year now, I’ll say that you get the best out of this mic when you are speaking very close to them. I would not recommend it as an ambient mic. I use them for podcasting or voice over and y put my mouth very close to them and the sound is outstanding

Can this microphone be directly connected to an iPad?
Asked by: Stacy
I have an iPad Pro/Air with USB-C and initially the microphone didn't work. I used the Apple USB to USB-C adapter, Kanex USB-C Hub, neither worked. Realized the included 20' cable was the issue, switched out for 3-6' USB cable (USB A to USB B, "printer cable") and that worked. I remember in the past that the power/signal gets cut after 16', so a short cable was the way to go. This could also be a limitation on the USB-C port on the iPad Pro/Air in terms of AC power support. If using iPad/iPhone with Lightning the Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter you may need additional external power to the adapter. The included 20' cable works with MacBook Pro/Air with USB C with Apple USB-C adapter. Assumption there is the Mac has more AC power on Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports. TLDR; Get a 3-6' USB cable for iPads.

Can this microphone be used with an Apple M1 chip?
Asked by: Jonathan
I have never seen a USB2 to USB-C cable, and neither a [email protected] to lightning cable if one were to want to use this with an iPad Pro. Perhaps if one used a hub, but those are rare as hens teeth with the USB2 on them.

Asked by: krish
I dont know how you define a "dynamic microphone" but I can tell you this mic requires a little experimental tweaking (depending on how far you want the mic to be to you ect) But after a couple of trial runs it will be the an absolutely wonderful mic with beautiful tone and sound quality!
