FUJIFILM 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 overview

  • 1Description

An ideal all-around lens, the FUJIFILM XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR is a versatile 27-206mm-equivalent zoom, covering wide-angle to medium telephoto fields of view. Well-suited for travel and walkaround shooting, the expansive reach of this lens is further complemented by a sophisticated optical design, which uses ED and aspherical elements, to produce high color accuracy, sharpness, and image clarity. An HT-EBC coating also improves contrast and color neutrality by reducing flare and ghosting when working in strong lighting conditions. Also benefitting use in a variety of situations, a linear motor delivers quick and quiet autofocus performance and a five stop-effective image stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake. Additionally, the lens is fully weather-sealed for working in inclement conditions.

All-in-one zoom is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and offers a 27-206mm equivalent focal length range.
Two extra-low dispersion elements are used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.
Four aspherical elements control distortion and spherical aberrations, which helps to improve sharpness and realize more accurate rendering.
An HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) coating has been applied to the entire surface of each element to for controlling ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color accuracy.
A linear motor autofocus system, coupled with an internal focusing design, delivers smooth, near-silent performance that is especially beneficial to video applications and when working in noise-sensitive areas.
Complemented by an enhanced gyro sensor and unique series of algorithms, the optical stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to five stops to enable sharper imaging when working with longer focal lengths or slower shutter speeds.
The lens body incorporates 20 distinct weather seals to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

    FUJIFILM 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 reviews

XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 79.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a tank In this day and age of the big camera companies building lenses out of plastic, it is refreshing to see one company remember what quality lens construction is all about. The barrel of this lens is real metal and even though it has a bit of heft because of it, it feels comfortable and isn't overly heavy. The complete weather sealing is an extra bonus that again most other manufacturers don't do. The picture quality is superb. No noticeable vignetting throughout the zoom range. The sharpness is crisp and the colors well rendered. If you are looking for the prefect travel lens this is it. Paired with the Fujifilm X-T1 you'll have a combo that it unbeatable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded Expectations I wanted a general purpose lens to pair with my X-T1 that I could take anywhere without worrying about weather conditions. If it gets too bad outside, I can throw it in my bag, but a little rain doesn't make me run for cover now. I was expecting a typical if it does everything, it probably does most of it at mediocre quality. I was wrong. It does everything and at a cut well above average. Nobody will mistake this for the image quality of a Fuji prime, but it's outstanding for its class. The primary downside is price, but if you can stomach that, it's a wonderful travel lens. And..... the image stabilization is absolutely fantastic!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-around lens This lens nails it as far as a perfect balance between size, weight, focal range, aperture and quality. No it's not as sharp as a prime but it's as good as the 18-55 for the most part. Is it sharp still? Yes, very sharp especially at f/8 and f/11 at all focal lengths. What surprised me was the image quality at 18mm and at the other extreme 135mm. This lens is perfect for someone who doesn't like to fiddle with changing lenses or is in situations where you may not want to like near surf or waterfall spray. Travel? Perfect travel and walkabout lens. Image stabilization is incredible and works really well for stationary subjects. Fuji hit it just right! Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the wait I've been anxiously waiting the arrival of this zoom X-mount lens and I expect it to be my workhorse lens. I haven't taken it off since I put it on my camera, and I haven't been disappointed. I especially like the weather resistance. Most of my photography is done outdoors, so WR is a definite plus. For the price, it would have been nice if the lens hood mounted a bit more solidly, but I haven't had any problems so far. The lens operates smoothly; however, it's a little sticky going up to 135, but only a little. It's a nice, solid lens--I've been waiting for it since Fuji announced it, and I'm glad I waited.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jack of All Trades Lens I am using this lens on a XT1 and the results have been excellent. The lens is a little big, but it does balance fairly well on the XT1. It appears to be very well made and durable, but I have not yet exposed it to any wet weather. It has a solid, quality feel. Images are very sharp from wide to near its extreme telephoto range, and the bokeh is very nice with a smooth and creamy appearance. The very good quality of the out of focus areas has been a pleasant surpass. Focus is lightening quick and I have had good results shooting wildlife as well as landscapes. This lens is a do it all gem!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Walking Around Choice I used this on my recent trip to Cuba and it was on my X-T1 most of the time. The other lens I brought was the 10-24 for wider shots. The 18-135 did a great job and allowed me to compose and capture scenes that I wouldn't have gotten with a wider angle. It's not that fast but fast enough to stop motion if you are willing to boost the ISO. I wish that Fujinon would make a version of this lens in an f/2.8 or even f/4 fixed aperture. But, until then, this lens is a great combination of sharpness and budget-wise. It's also nice that it is water resistant as is the X-T1 body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great do-it-all lens. I have used this lens with my X-T1, and find that the size and weight is just fine when fitted on that body. Chose this lens because of the weather sealing. The built quality is very good as well. Feels solid in your hands. The quality of the images taken with it is simply great with good sharpness and great colors. Some claim that it is slow, but at 55 mm it is almost as fast as the much praised 18-55 mm. The excellent OIS fully compensates for that - at least for the purposes I use it for. Another great thing is that it focuses quite close, making it useful for macro shots (0.27 magnification). Fit the 16 mm distance ring and you boost this to 0.45 - practically eliminating the need for a dedicated macro lens. I would recommend this lens to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the right size, weight, range and performance. I use my new 18-135 for my job as a newspaper photographer. It focuses fast and acurate with my X-Pro2 and it has the perfect range. I love this set-up because it's light and small. I just did some shots in the freezing rain this morning so the weather resistant feature is perfect. The OIS works well. The lens is as sharp as any of my Nikon lenses including my 70-200 f2.8 but I'll stick with the Nikon for sports but I'm sure the Fujifilm would do great. Just the right size, weight and perfomance.
