It will hold your camera but I would definitely recommend a tripod that is far more stable for astro photography. Click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/3gBNPFs

Could you explain why 9 pounds minimum load capacity. Canon EOS RP and 35 RF no more than 850 grams with filter and lens hood. Less than 2 pounds. BEST ANSWER: Hi, I would not recommend this tripod for that camera and lens combination. I would recommend a minimum load capacity of 9 lbs for that. (less) Boyd Staff on Mar 28, 2020

Edit to correct … My bad! I had this confused with another lightweight tripod I purchased for my D500 … The tripod you are asking about was purchased for my wife's D5500. This camera is VERY light and works well on this tripod, though my observations are still the same as previously indicated. Sorry for the confusion!

Did the math. My camera and lens + lens hood and filter no more than 850 grams. Less than 2 Ib. Canon EOS RP can be mounted on this tripod? universal connect
Asked by: Colin
The Canon RP can mount on this tripod and it will hold it, but it is a simple tripod. Does not offer ease of use as higher end tripods allow. Head does not have friction control to help to hold the camera as you set the angles. The knobs aren't the strongest to withstand long term use.
