Manfrotto Compact Action Tripod Overview

The black Compact Action Aluminum Tripod from Manfrotto is a five-section camera support that can hold up to 4.4 lb. It extends from 17.3" to 61" and weighs 2.6 lb.

The grip head on the tripod has a knob that allows you to select between a photo and video function. When using the video function, the head will keep your camera level on the horizontal plane so that you can achieve smooth pans. When the knob is switched to the photo function your camera will be able to move freely on all axes for maximum control. A carrying bag is included to protect the tripod during transport.

The included quick-release plate attaches to most cameras via a 1/4"-20 tripod mount.
The ergonomic grip has a scroll-wheel locking mechanism that locks and unlocks the movement of the head.

Seems to hold my Canon 5d quite well and the quick spin knob allows for fast repositioning.

This is a very light, very compact tripod that can fit into a small backpack. I own several of them and have purchased several for clients that do hybrid events, both in person and where they stream them simultaneously. The kits I create for the clients all fit in a backpack for ease of use. And this is a great solution.

I was able to go in-store to test this and all the other offerings. Fantastic value and the ball mechanism is very convenient for fast set ups.

Picked this up when an old cheap tripod I had been using broke. Love this thing. The attachment mechanism for the camera is super easy to use. The head moves smoothly and locks tight. Definitely worth the money for my workflow and use case.

This is a nifty item for photo and some video. I notice my video pans begin to drift and tilt up and down if I don't ride them. The side switch released allows Photo mode: total free-roll movement, useful for swinging to portrait mode, and great to have when I'm searching for an ideal comp; I can then lock it up positively. But when switch is locked into video mode restricting the free roll, it still wobbles a bit, and pans or tilts are not locked. I can get a smooth horizontal pan from this item without positive lock but it's more work to ride it. For instance, I find I must rely on increasing the grip pressure to pan smoothly and try not to apply any tilt pressure. For a few bucks more, you might be able to find a model which adds positive pan and tilt lock, or pan with tilt, with all the other nifty features.
