If you're looking for a compact, easy-to-use lapel mic that plugs right into a phone's TRRS jack, the Rode SmartLav+ is the microphone for you. This mic offers a broadcast-quality sound in a tiny form factor, and can record to many phones and devices that offer 3.5mm TRRS connectivity.
No controls are on hand, which streamlines the process: simply clamp the mic to your subject (or yourself), plug the mic into the phone, and start recording. The mic will work with any app that records audio, including the built-in iOS Voice Memo App—but when you pair it with the iOS Rode Reporter APP, you'll have access to a wide array of mixing, editing, and exporting tools. Perfect for electronic field production, run-and-gun news reporting, or simple mobile vlogs, the mic comes with a windshield, a durable clip, and a Kevlar-reinforced cable.

RODE smartLav+ Reviews
B&H comes through...again
I needed an external mic for my GoPro 12 and this one was recommended. I did my research and got the proprietary adapter from GoPro. The mic did not WOR, so I asked for, and received, a replacement. Still did not work. I contacted GoPro and the second customer service Rep figured it out: the mic uses a TRRS connector but the GoPro requires a TRS adapter. So I needed an adapter for my adapter. B&H had that adapter at a reasonable price and delivered it quickly. Isuggested to GoPro that they could do a better job with identifying compatible accessories. Thanks to B&H for maintaining a high standard.
Sounds boxy and distorted
Not a very good sounding mic for me. Look for reviews and listen for yourself, but it sounds boxy and noisy in terms of low end distortion. It makes the speech sound less clear than say a dynamic mic plugged into a cheap preamp. I don't recommend.
