If you're looking for a compact, easy-to-use lapel mic that plugs right into a phone's TRRS jack, the Rode SmartLav+ is the microphone for you. This mic offers a broadcast-quality sound in a tiny form factor, and can record to many phones and devices that offer 3.5mm TRRS connectivity.
No controls are on hand, which streamlines the process: simply clamp the mic to your subject (or yourself), plug the mic into the phone, and start recording. The mic will work with any app that records audio, including the built-in iOS Voice Memo App—but when you pair it with the iOS Rode Reporter APP, you'll have access to a wide array of mixing, editing, and exporting tools. Perfect for electronic field production, run-and-gun news reporting, or simple mobile vlogs, the mic comes with a windshield, a durable clip, and a Kevlar-reinforced cable.

RODE smartLav+ Reviews
Sounds boxy and distorted
Not a very good sounding mic for me. Look for reviews and listen for yourself, but it sounds boxy and noisy in terms of low end distortion. It makes the speech sound less clear than say a dynamic mic plugged into a cheap preamp. I don't recommend.
Great mic great price
The Rode SmartLav+ was recommended to me by a fellow video collaborator and it works great. It has a nice full sound with little to no z noise. It's priced right. The adapter connects to my DSLR and the quality through the computer is great.
Exactly What I Needed
I bought this lav to use with my smartphone (which requires an adapter, as I do not have a headphone jack). It performs exactly as advertised, I would absolutely buy it again.
Good mic
I bought this having used other Rode mics, but I didn't realize until after I purchased it you need the TRS adapter to use it on a camera or mobile recording device. I'd still get it if I had to again.
Mic preliminary review
Small mic that clip on in order to close to the sound of one's voice. This needs to be tested at several feet away from phone location for my final approval of mic.
Works fine
My first lavalier mic. The mic is good. Tried it on my phone and my recorder. Sounds a bit muddy in the low end, but it's EQ-able and for the price I can't complain. The wire seems coated to avoid kinking, nice touch. The clip is a little kludgy - you need to push the wire in the side slot pretty hard to get it to stay, but you can use some athletic tape to hold that too. Overall I'm satisfied.
Clean clear and crisp
I'm so glad I got this Rhode lav, sounds crisp and clear. Shipping was super fast too.
Great but get an extension
Great mic. Clear sound but to get extra use out of it, I suggest purchasing a TRRS to TRS adaptor. Now so can also use it with my Rode Go II. I also picked up a TRRS extension so that I can be further from my phone, otherwise I found that it's a bit too short at times.
